Test Results for Thyroid

Hi again everyone--it's been a while since posting--just received my test results and I feel great. Hope they are "up to snuff." My TSH is 0.56; T3=107; Free T4=1.2; Folate=14.5; Iron=99; Binding Capacity=415 mcg; Iron SAT=24%. In early April my doctor upped my levothyroxine to 1.25 instead of 1.00 mcg.

Hi SanDiegoCa, I hope you had a good road trip a little while back.

Your TSH looks good but I need to see the lab ref ranges (figures in brackets after results) to interpret the others.

Hi Clutter--so nice to hear from you--hope you are feeling well--we had a delightful trip but couldn't believe the low water level at the lake. Due to the drought it was about one tenth of its usual size. Off topic, but San Diego never gets very cold and doesn't rain much; our norm is 9 inches a year but we've only had 3 inches this year. We are in a severe drought and the Governor made a mandatory order to only water our lawns 3 days a week for no longer than 10 minutes. We are very surprised to have a rain storm coming as late as May--our high will only be 62F. We hope it will help relieve our drought some. All of my neighbors and friends are getting excited to see rain again.

My test results with the range in parentheses is:

TSH=.56 (0.35-4.00 ncIU/mL; T3=107 (58-159 ng/dL);

Free T4=1.2 (0.8-1.5 ng/dL); Folate=14.5 (<5.4 ng/mL);

Total iron binding capacity=415 (250-450 mcg/dL);

Iron=99 (37-145 mcg/dL); Iron SAT=24 (20-50%).

Don't have a clue as to the significance of these counts--not proficient in this area.

SanDiegoCa, I hope you get the rain you need in reasonable amounts not in one terrible deluge.

As I said, TSH looks good. FT4 is good in the top third of range. I'm not familiar with Total T3 but it appears to be mid range. Folate is good and I'm also not good on iron but the results all look to be comfortably within range and not bumping along the bottom or right at the top of range.

The main thing is to know whether you feel better with the increased dose?

Thank you again Clutter--your experience and knowledge in this area have brought clarity to my situation and so many others. Thanks again for encouraging me to see my doctor for my counts--I feel so much better now.

SanDiegoCa, that's great. Sometimes a small tweak to meds is all that's needed. Hope you have fun splashing in puddles when it rains :-D

I goofed--doctor upped it to 112 mcg instead of 100 mcg.
