Does anyone know more about it other than ingredients...source of meat or it's farming standards. It is much less expensive but the country of origin has dubious farming standards, I understand.

Do we even know its ingredients? Last I saw, all we had was what the company told someone several years ago...

I have never understood why the manufacturer doesn't display the ingredient list on their website - as do many other pharmaceutical companies around the world.

I found the list of ingredients on STTM. It has a load of artificial colourings which cause allergic reactions in many of my family members. So I don't take the risk of taking them. Many of us are trying to live clean because of our health problems.

But when you read what is posted there, you see TWO lists. One of which relates to some anonymous email sent to some anonymous US doctor in August 2009. The other seems to come from the manufacturer but with absolutely no additional information such as date. And the two lists, whilst similar, do have differences.

If STTM knew for sure, why do they post both lists?

There is far too much uncertainty about this product for me to be happy - at the same time, I am quite sure a number of people are taking it and doing well.

THYROID-S is from Sriprasit Pharma Co., Ltd. in Thailand <...> Advertising states that Sriprasit Pharma is “a leading importer of pharmaceutical products, and has been a GMP and ISO 9002-certified manufacturer of pharmaceutical products.” Patients report they are quite pleased with this product. Sriprasit states Thyroid-s is gluten-free, but a patient has reported classic gluten digestive symptoms with it. To see a photo of the tablet, go here. Tablets are light brown, round, coated. The ingredients, according to Pongsak Songpaisan of Sriprasit are:

Thyroid extract USP

Lactose (a milk sugar and is a filler)

PVP K90 (Polyvinylpyrolidone; water soluble coating/binder; no known hazard)

Avicel (microcrystalline cellulose; holds product together)

Aerosil (silicic acid powder; help disperse the ingredients)

Sodium starch glycolate (helps dissolute/disintegrate the pill)

Magnesium stearate (filling agent)

Eudragit (a common sustain-released coating)

Methocel (a water soluble cellulose — helps bind pill)

Talcum (a filler)

Ponceau 4r lake (red additive-aluminum)

Tartrazine lake (yellow additive-aluminum)

Brilliant blue FCF lake (blue additive-aluminum)

Sunset yellow FCF (yellow additive)

Titanium dioxide (white)

PEG 6000 (water soluble polymer; binder)

On 8-09, received an email from a US Doctor who received the following list after emailing Sriprasit:

Fillers used: Corn starch, actose, Avicel (microcrystalline cellulose; MCC); Binders used: PVP K-90 (Polyvinylpyrrolidone); Preservatives used: Methyl paraben, Propyl paraben; Content in one tablet (60 mg thyroid extract): approximately 38 mcg Levothyroxine (T4) and 9 mcg Liothyronine (T3); Source of extract: Porcine

Thanks for putting it out. Yes, that punched a small hole in my credibility. I value patient experience above all else, but when it comes to professional practitioners/researchers evidencing what's available it might be wiser to back up with empirical knowledge, or lack of it, about product and supplier. I saw a risk of some sufferers assuming thyroid-s OK because it is listed on STTM. But I am open to being corrected.

I too agree that if people do well on it, over a reasonable period of time, that has to have something right!

However, I also believe that full ingredient information should be absolute - for all medicines, everywhere. (I am not happy that some ingredients are so cryptic even on properly-disclosed lists. But better than none being available!)

I was aware of the ingredients listed on STTM and on the Thyroid--S website, thank you anyway. It still does not cover how the pig donors are reared. I have searched from every angle, asked on other forums and nothing comes back apart from vague product spin from the seller/s. It's a lot less expensive than other NDT's and some users are saying it does the job for them, but I am worried about the pigs...bad enough using them anyway, and the long term of ingesting anything potentially nastier than what we already have. It might be a last resort when finances can no longer uphold the extortionate price of established NDT supply. I am waiting in hopes for news from another contact who's relation lives in Taiwan.

I have never understood why the put aluminum in it, as I have never seen that included in any other thyroid medication, synthetic or natural...it does not sound healthy, although it may not be in such amounts as to be problematic...? However, if you take it daily, for many years, maybe the aluminum will build up in your body...? Also, besides the animal health issues, I also find the long list of ingredients questionable...a shame, as Thai Thyroid is so much cheaper than the brands availably by prescription in Europe, especially Armour, which has literally doubled in price in recent months...

Thanks for chipping in. I did get a friendly response from the UK agent...eventually but he said he did not know anything about how the pigs were raised and fed.

I was thinking about it at the time in case better brands ran dry. I did purchase thyroid to have by me, in case.

According to STTM, Armour doubled in price after Actavis bought it from Forest:

I was a bit surprised, though, to read that so many patients are unhappy all over again...meaning they were first happy with reformulated Armour (when did that happen?), only to realise that it has been changed again, and once again for the worse...this article makes Armour seem doomed to me.
