Low t3 but what do I do about it?

My t3 is 317 (ref range 800-2500) in a 24 hr urine test. But what do I do about it? I have been taking Nutri adrenal extra and thyroid complex for 2 months but it obviously isn't enough.

My energy is low, really tired, feeling hopeless about the GP, who said my thyroid was fine (TSH in the normal range). But I knew things weren't fine and had the test done privately.

So what do I do now?

Thx in advance.

Welcome to the foum, Lynnie64.

Can you post your TSH result? It will help members advise. I'm not familiar with T3 urine testing but I can see yours is low. NHS tend to use blood tests so I'm not sure whether your GP will be able to interpret the urine result but she may agree to test FT4 and FT3 on the basis of the low urine result.

My TSH was in the normal range when my GP tested it last year. I don't have the number or reference range, just know the GP said it was ok.

Yes, but the point is, doctors have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to thyroid. The range is very wide - too wide! - and just being 'in range' isn't good enough, it's where in the range it falls that counts. It should be low in the range for you to feel well. And, obviously, your TSH is not reflecting your thyroid status because you know that your T3 is low. It rarely does.

Were I going for a private test, I would have chosen a blood test, because that's what doctors are used to dealing with. TSH, FT4, FT3, antiTPO, antiTg, iron, ferritin, vit B12, vit D, folate. No one test is good enough on its own.

Always, always ask for a print-out of any blood test you have. Always see the numbers for yourself and never just take your doctor's word for it. 'Fine' is not a diagnosis, it's an opinion, and you might have a different opinion to hers. :)
