Grey Got my results after everyones comments last week. Do They make any sense to you??

Beani, I'm surprised you are able to get out of bed with those results. TSH 263.4 is very high indeed, most people are comfortable with TSH just above or below 1.0. FT4 3.5 is considerably below range, optimal is >19. As your FT4 is so low you will not be converting much T3 and it is low T3 which causes hypothyroid symptoms including the brain fog you described recently.

How much Levothyroxine has your GP prescribed?

Well last week when i saw my gp she wanted to start at alow doseage and work up wards cause to much to

Quick can cause more harm then good. 25mg but i can't seem to get them down. It like a have a total block in trying to get them down.Saw Dr today and we both decided lets try 50mg as its taken 4 attempts to take 1 tablet to go down. Also i am on sleeping tablets but we both decided to decrease them incase they put me into a coma.I have gone from 9 st 2 to 10st 5 in 6 weeks and today my weight was checked and i have put on another 2 kilos and I'm not eating much .

Beani, your weight increase is due to the hypothyroidism. Even if you sew up your mouth the weight gain will continue until you have a decent amount of Levothyroxine in you. As weight is piling on recently you are unlikely to have the problems shifting it that people who have gained weight over years can have.

Your doctor is right that hormone replacement has to be started slowly and increased gradually to avoid problems. 50mcg is fine for patients under 50 without heart disease to start on. Make sure you have a follow up blood test in 6 weeks as you will need a dose increase. Leave 24 hours between last dose and the blood draw.

It will take 7/10 days for Levothyroxine to be absorbed and start working on your symptoms. Don't expect much from 50mcg, it is going to take a few months before you are optimally dosed and feel well but you will feel improvement during that time.

Wash the tablet down with a glass of water. Gulp it down, don't do ladylike sips and the tablet will wash down. If necessary crunch the tablet and wash it down with water.

For maximum absorption take Levothyroxine with water on an empty stomach an hour before or two hours after food and drink, two hours away from other medication and supplements and 4 hours away from iron, calcium, vitamin D and oestrogen.

It's frustrating when dose is adjusted according to blood tests rather than symptoms and to have dose reduced when you are still symptomatic. You can tell your doctor you are unwilling to accept a dose reduction but if s/he insists there isn't much you can do about it unless you decide to buy extra Levothyroxine on the internet and self medicate.

Beani, TSH over 20 has been shown to impair driving reactions more than being over the drink drive limit so please drive as little as possible and be super cautious if you have to. Be careful operating machinery too.

Thank you clutter but don't drive.....and i know how to take the tablet i have just a mental bloke to thyroxine .sometimes it goes down but then i gag or throw up.....Like i said its my own fault.

Beani, try crunching the tablet and washing it down. If it is still a problem try eating the tablet with a plain cracker. It's not ideal taking it with food but if it gets the thyroxine into you that's what counts.

Stop beating yourself up! It was an error of judgement but what's done is done and you are putting it right now. Pace your activity until you feel better and get as much rest as possible.

Two out of three UK licensed levothyroxine products have specific advice for children - and I can see absolutely NO reason for not following it regardless of your age:

Actavis

Giving these tablets to children:

The dose for children depends on their age, weight and the condition being treated. Your child will be monitored to make sure he/she gets the right dose. You should give them their medicine at least half an hour before breakfast or their first meal of the day. If necessary, the tablets can be dissolved in 10-15ml of water and given with some more liquid (5-10ml). The dissolved tablets should be taken straight away. Do not keep the solution to give to your child later.

AND

Mercury Pharma
