question to those on Armour Thyroid

Do you chew the pills up before swallowing them, take them sublingually, or simply swallow them?

My doctor said that she has patients on as much as 7.5-8 grains of Armour daily. Could that be because of the added cellulose, as most recommend 2-5 grains of NDT daily...?

Does the "new" Armour taste terrible?

You should swallow Armour or any NDT with a glass of water. The molecules are too large to be absorbed through the tongue. They are made to dissolve in the stomach. You should take any thyroid hormones on an empty stomach as food may interfere with the uptake.

Everyone varies in their doses - some need large doses as their receptor cells may be resistant and others need much less. Whatever makes you feel well is the proper dose.

I always chew my Armour. Not the best tasting, but you get used to it. This is the ideal way to take it. If you take more than one pill, it's ideal to split it up twice/multiple times a day.

I would chew mine but am usually too sleepy so just put in my mouth as soon as I'm awake enough and wait for it to dissolve (which can take a long time if I fall asleep again) but it seems to work better this way. I'm sure I read it on this forum that it's best to take it this way, rather than just swallowing with water.
