Oh dear. Not seen before, but I'd be very ill if I was only "allowed" to take the dosage calculated there. In fact, I wouldn't have been treated at all, with my TSH at the top end of "normal".
And why does it not matter that my FT4 is low just because I'm over 40? Gee, thanks, stupid calculator...
Good grief! I'd be on 25 levo for life (secondary so TSH always low and over 40) - just enough to shut my thyroid down completely I should think.
Pinebunny, it's useless. Dose/weight ratio maybe useful for 'guesstimating' a thyroidectomised patient's initial dose, thereafter dose is titrated by TSH, FT4 and FT3.
All you need is for someone to absorb the levothyroxine slightly less well than most, and the whole panoply falls apart. Or for a particular make of levothyroxine to fail to deliver its claimed dose. (Here's looking at you, Teva.)
As you say, Clutter, formulas are pretty much only of use "for 'guesstimating' a thyroidectomised patient's initial dose".
