I asked my husband to look up the DNS for the old Polish calculator that has disappeared and he said it looks like it's lapsed and not been renewed so the web page has gone.
So he's put together a replacement for everyone. It's not fancy (he's a tech wizard but not a designer, he has others to do that for him), but it does the job and will stay live as long as we need it.
Let me know if you think anything is missing or if anything unexpected happens when you use it.
Is it possible to pin it to this forum so people can easily find it?
It's fast because the calculation is "client side" rather than "server side". ie the calculation takes place on the web page. It doesn't need to go back to the server to fetch a new page.
I didn't find it. I told him the one we relied on had broken. He looked and said the DNS had not been renewed (ie the page owner has not paid the bills) and the page has gone. It's what happens to old web pages if people stop paying for the web server services. So he wrote us a new one and it's hosted on one of his servers, which he has for work as well as his own fun stuff.
It means "two onions" or twice cooked onions and is indeed the name of a curry. My husband adores curry, cooking it and eating it. Dopiaza has been his online user name for many years.
It's very simple. Just 1 line of code for the actual calculations. It's the layout, accessibility to all browsers and devices etc. that takes a bit of effort. It kept him amused last evening.
HiI just tried this out. The copy button is great and it's lovely and clear to use. Thanks to hubby! Tech savvy and a good cook! What more do you need? 😉
I'll let you into a secret. His downside is he's really untidy! But I can deal with that. I love his cooking. He's busy making something Thai right now.
Weird, I used the ThyroidUK link and got straight to it. chorobytarczycy.eu/kalkulat..., I prefer your hubby’s version. The copy function is really helpful.
Well the DNS server was shutdown when my husband looked at it. Someone must have paid the bill and put it back up. But having an English version is good anyway. Plus the copy feature saves a bit of time.
That looks very good, though I haven't put my results in yet. I wanted to keep the link, which I don't think is possible over time, so I tried putting it in the browser and it doesn't work. Suppose I'll have to put my scores in before tomorrow! Thanks very much for finding it.
I'm sorry. I don't understand what you mean. You click on the link I gave you and then bookmark the page in your web browser. It has also been pinned to the forum page. But a bookmark on your computer will do the job for many years.
This would be great to use,but it doesn't work! I can put in my results but nothing happens to show percentage in the range. OR have I missed he right button to press?
There is no right button to press. Put in your result and the bottom and top of the reference interval (range) and the result just appears. You must put in three values for each test you want to calculate.
I just checked and it works for me.
It is possible that something about your device or network is preventing it from working.
In my vade mecum document there is a section on calculators (including this one) which might give you some alternatives:
helvella - Vade Mecum for Thyroid
The term vade mecum means:
1. A referential book such as a handbook or manual.
2. A useful object, constantly carried on one’s person.
Please don't get put off by the number of pages!
In particular, it is not intended that you sit and read the document. Just that you download it and know you can look things up.
Not everything is in this one document - my major medicines document is still separate!
Thanks for getting back. I did look ok at Helvella’s reference and promptly gave up ! It’s a lot of information there. I did discover that I can’t use the original link ( handy though it is) baca use I only have my TSH. Gp has stopped doing T4 , and never did T3 . I’ll have to wait until I have my next private test. Not sure when that will be. TSH was 2.09. So is ok for now I think. AgIn thanks for replying.
Esmielola ... put TSH result in, then put in 'bottom of range', and 'top of range' and the % should appear below . You don't have to do all three results TSH/fT4 /fT3 .
It still works even of you just do [TSH result ]~ [bottom range ]~ [top range] ..... or at least it does for me.
You can use the calculator for any result as a stand-a-lone. TSH, FT3 or FT4 or any combination of results. You just need your result and the upper and lower reference range to put into the 3 boxes in the relevant section. The answer pops up once you have put the info in.
Esmielola .... i just noticed something by accident . Are you accidentally putting a , (comma) or anything else that isn't a number or a decimal point (full stop) into the box for your result , or range ?
I just did one and wondered why it didn't give me the % ,,, i noticed i'd hit comma instead of putting a decimal point in .. and lo and behold , it doesn't work if you put a comma in.
I did 9,86 ....no %result
i did 9.87 ... and got a % result.
Check what you are inputting to the boxes . it looks like if you put anything else in, it doesn't work ?
Thanks Tattybogle. I didn't put in a comma ( I don't think so anyway!). I just didn't put in the RANGE for the result. I now need to look up the range. As I only have the TSH and my result was 2.09 MIUL I don't really need a percentage as I know the range according to ThyroidUK/Health Unlocked research/experience, and I know the range according to British Thyroid Foundation, and the opinion of some NHS GPs. I reckon I'm 'sorta ok' ish!!! Feeling much better these days with reduced Thryroxine ( only 12.5 mcgs daily- reduced slowly over 6 months) and with better diet and weekly yoga/pilates ( 2 classes). I am not counting my chickens though. Not yet at least. I'm due for private repeat blood tests in August, so that detailed result will tell me a little more about what is the next 'stay healthy' step, and check Folate again. Second thoughts: will test T4,TSH,T3 within the next couple of weeks, as I really needed the T4 andT3 result as well. Sorry for the long spiel. thanks for listening! ( if you did!)
Ok so just read back. I reduced by 12.5mcgs so am still on 50 mcgs daily. I am feeling ok thanks to exercise and better diet I think. Also taking B complex ) with folate. I am 70 this year! Apparently TSH can be raised in this age group ! Have you heard of that?
There is much to be learned I’m sure but recently I feel better.. I am grateful for that.
I don't know about TSH and advancing years. But if you can reduce and feel better that has to be good. Perhaps you have Hashie's and it's in remission.
Lots of members post screenshots of this calculator. Like the one attached to this reply.
But the author has provided [ Copy ] buttons so that you do not need to manage screenshots.
Just put in the numbers, the calculator will work it out, then click on the [ Copy ] button. Go to the post you are making and paste (Ctrl&V on Windows, Command&V on macOS, hover and use Paste on IOS, etc.)
You can see below what happens - it pastes as just the text.
TSH: 3.5 mU/l (Range 0.4 - 4.5) 75.61%
FT4: 15 pmol/l (Range 11 - 22) 36.36%
This can be very helpful if you are posting many results. Or the calculator doesn't fit into your screen.
Ah, yes, I forgot it was pinned. It was odd because I was actually in the thread at the time you posted. I was re-reading the comments and had just checked the age of the post to remind myself not to comment. Then you popped in and it made me wonder if I'd done something to bring it to the fore and you hadn't noticed the age of it.
I'm amazed it's 2 years since I asked my husband to write that for us!
