The synthetic T4 was never clinically trialled, and it is not the right replacement for thyroid insufficiency. A lot of sufferers find it works well enough, but a lot of others claim it doesn't and they need T3, or T4 plus T3. Some people get on better with natural desiccated thyroid which is closer to what your own thyroid would be producing if it could. There are many reasons why replacement treatment of any kind isn't a perfect solution, and people on here usually find they have to investigate their own chemistry and change their nutrition to get their body to work well. Years of under-replacement have affected all the cells of the body and resulted in a catalogue of diseases/symptoms. It takes a tidy while to get yourself functioning well again, and this is when we find out where the medical system does not help us.

As the thyroid remains under-treated, we discover new symptoms and GPs prescribe synthetic drugs that target each particular symptom: indigestion remedies, migraines, headaches, tiredness, erratic heartbeats, temperature ... the list is very long. Everyone ends up on a cocktail of six or more different tablets. All the side effects of this cocktail add to the problems and make you worse. We have all been guineapigs for the statins - and they have damaged us. Sometimes you have to slip far down the chute before you realise that the system makes more money by keeping you ill, and the NHS is just a business. Thanks to the dedicated people on websites such as this one, for helping us wherever we are in our crippledom, to start piecing together what we need to take control of our own health and recovery.

I put the cart before the horse, and took myself off all synthetic meds, last August, including Levo. Now I'm adjusting my dose of NDT and feel tons better, but the first bloods I have done since the changeover show just what you indicate, ReallyFedUp - midway on B12, okay on folate, horribly low on D3, and various indicators of longstanding inflammation in the body. Ferritin is HIGH, but all the blood cells good. I am following Dr Lowe's recommendations about measuring BASAL blood pressure (supine, resting level), BASAL temperature and daytime temp. and pulse rate (which also gives me a reading on what my atrium is doing, fibrillating or not. I am posting up something on Basal Blood Pressure, as I had to research what he meant by that.

I'm looking forward to seeing my GP this month, who is going to have a heart attack when she sees my new suppressed TSH figure, and she will probably tell me I am going to DIE again ...

But I will give her Dr. Lowe's well argued paper and let her fret. Me, I'm going to enjoy using my NutriBullet and hacking back overgrown bushes in my neglected garden.

Theoretically, if you are on an optimum dose of medication you should not have additional problems. If you have been kept 'within range' yes, I do believe you can get other problems. This link refers to being on too low doses.
