I read yesterday that other supplements/meds should be taken 4 hours apart from Levo.

This is a link I just found and this an excerpt:-

tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially amphetamines; anticoagulants ('blood thinners') such as warfarin (Coumadin); antidepressants or anti-anxiety agents; arthritis medicine; aspirin; beta-blockers such as metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol), propranolol (Inderal) or timolol (Blocadren, Timoptic); cancer chemotherapy agents; diabetes medications (insulin and tablets); digoxin (Lanoxin); estrogens; methadone; oral contraceptives; phenytoin (Dilantin); steroids; theophylline (TheoDur); and vitamins.

if you take an antacid, calcium carbonate (Tums), cholestyramine (Questran), colestipol (Colestid), iron, orlistat (alli, Xenical), simethicone (Phazyme, Gas X), sodium polystrene sulfonate (Kayexalate), or sucralfate (Carafate), take it at least 4 hours before or 4 hours after you take levothyroxine.

Thank you shaws, that's going to be a bit of a juggleing act. Have just seen an error in my question, not 40 mg but 5mg. pred.

Phew. I was going to ask why you are taking such a high dose. Instead, I'll ask why are you taking prednisolone rather than hydrocortisone? I believe HC is bioidentical and also, as it's weaker, it's easier to split dose.

Hi rosetrees I was prescribed pred 15mg in January as rheumy decided that I had PMR as well as the RA and alleged fibro.

The protocol was to drop to 10 mg. after a month, this was too much and I had a bad flare up, rheumy said back to 15 but I started to follow my instincts and about 3 months ago got down to 3 mg. but flared again, got stuck on 5 ever since but am in a bad way. Rheumy says RA is quiet which I tend to agree, but 20 yrs of virtually no meds has left me in a bad way. I feel the pain is muscular, but I have never been offered anything else.

I do not know anything about HC and generally I am pretty well clued up.

As you can imagine I will be doing a lot of googling to-morrow.

Thank you for your input rosetrees I will let you know how get on.

Regards.

Hi rostrees have just found this link which would appear to answer the prednisolone v HC question as it applies to me.

The relatively high mineralocorticoid activity of hydrocortisone, and the resulting fluid retention, makes it unsuitable for disease suppression on a long-term basis. However, hydrocortisone can be used for adrenal replacement therapy (section 6.3.1). Hydrocortisone is used on a short-term basis by intravenous injection for the emergency management of some conditions. The relatively moderate anti-inflammatory potency of hydrocortisone also makes it a useful topical corticosteroid for the management of inflammatory skin conditions because side-effects (both topical and systemic) are less marked (section 13.4).

Thank you for pointing the HC out to me.

Sorry I actually posted the link but it went straight to the article. If you want the link let me know.
