Deja vu panic attacks

Deja vu panic attacks around the week before my period. I had them last year and my Dr prescribed me 75mg time release venlaflaxine which did work but doesn't anymore. I just need some advice because I don't want to increase the venlaflaxine again. I am on 75mg of thyroxine.

Hi Minnie,

I am sorry you are having panic attacks - not pleasant at all and quite distressing as we don't quite know why this is happening.

If you haven't had a blood test lately for your thyroid gland, ask for one to be done. You may be undermedicated . If you've had one please get a copy from the surgery with the ranges and post on a new question. Always have the earliest appointment and don't take medication until afterwards.

Hi thanks for your reply but I had my blood tested about 2 months ago and it was fine. I just don't fancy having to takemmore antidepressants I would like to know if I am lacking some vitamins x

Do you know that they're fine or did the doctor say they were fine? Those things aren't always the same! Some doctors believe "in range" is enough, and it often isn't.

Do you have any Thyroid blood test results to share? 75mcg a day isn't a particularly high dose.

I don't have them but I will call on Monday and find out I just don't want to be on more and more antidepressants x Thanks for your lovely message

Glad to help - as everyone here is. It's a lovely place for support. And having been on anti-Ds myself at times, I completely get why you don't want more. There's no shame in taking them, but sometimes they just feel like sticking plasters.

I'm wondering whether you ever needed them, or whether it's been that you needed a slightly higher dose of Levo all along. I wouldn't be surprised, put it that way!

So how do de ja vu panic attacks feel, of you don't mind me asking? That's a new me on me!

De javu panic attacks are when you think that you have had either the conversation or been in that situation and you just panic and for a few seconds can't talk or make any sense and it also makes you need the toilet as well xx

Sounds scary {hug}

Thanks for explaining. Hope you start feeling better soon x

I don't understand why doctors do not really know how best to treat us. They mistakenly think if the TSH is in (what is termed as normal range) they needn't increase our dose.

You have to read and learn as much as possible in order to recover your health. Depression is a clinical symptom of hypothyroidism and T3 would be helpful for you but many are reluctant to prescribe. Psychiatrists give their patients T3. It is the Active Thyroid Hormone which we need. We can do without T4 as it is the inactive hormone and has to convert to sufficient T3 and some of us cannot convert sufficient for us to feel better. T3 is required by the billions of Receptor Cells in our bodies, without it we cannot function and the brain contains the most cells.

Always get copies of your blood test results, with the ranges, for your own records and so that you can post if you have a query. Always have the blood test at the earliest and don't take your medication before it. Take it afterwards.

Do you take your levothyroxine first thing with one glass of water and wait around 1 hour before eating. Food can interfere with the uptake of levo as can coffee.

Thanks I didn't realise that coffee interfered with thyroxine and I have a couple of cups of coffee in the morning when I get up I will just drink water and see if that makes a difference and I will go back to my doctor xx

Hi Minnie I can't help but notice your last posts were 2 years ago - have you been ok since then?

I think I remember the deja vu panic thing - been here before/groundhog day feeling, but now as Hypo I'm pretty chilled.

Maybe over-medicated? or something else in the mix - you probably know already but please check irons ferritin, folate & B12, Vit D and Calcium (there's loads more but this is enough for starters). J x

I have had a million and one things going on in my personal life . My husband left me for another woman nine months ago and I have just got on with it. The one big positive is that since I first found out that I had an under active thyroid I have managed to lose nearly 5 stone and my thyroxine has been lowered . I have had a lot of stress and I was starting to feel back to normal and in the past few weeks the attacks have started again . I know that I will be fine . Thanks for taking the time to reply x

Bless you Minnie - I didn't mean to pry.

I could do with losing 5 stone what's your secret?

(I have lost 4 stone before, but it just happened - Oh some twat leaving me may have helped!)

unfortunately I had him back, yep I'm stupid. I was afraid of the boiler....

I got more of these panic attack things when a lightweight 9st, given allsorts, betablockers, roprinilol (lol) AD's of course.

Glad to know you know you will be fine. Any wobbles - we're here... J :D x
