Throat Tightness

Hi I have been on Levothyroxine Sodium for 15 years, it has been increased till I am now on 100mcg.

Have had numerous endoscopies for Acid Reflux and was put on 20mg Omeprazole, I only took them when I really needed them.

In 2013 I was diagnosed with High Blood Pressure ( as it runs in family ) and take 5mg Vascalpha Felodipine.

Over the last couple of months I have developed a tightness in my throat - like someone has their hands round the front of my neck.

Went back to the doctors yesterday and I have been put back on 20mg Omeprazole.

Feeling unsure of the Diagnosis, does anyone else have the same problems please.

p.s. Have also lost weight ( from 8 stone to 7 stone 6 )

Thank You

Twinkle, did your GP have a feel of your throat and neck to see whether there was swelling of your thyroid gland or a goiter? Have you had thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin antibodies tested to rule out/confirm autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's)? What are your recent thyroid blood results? If you aren't optimally medicated your thyroid swells in response to TSH flogging it to produce more hormone. Hashimoto's attacks also cause the thyroid to swell.

Yes he felt my throat and said all was ok, if taking the Omeprazole does not work so to speak - which it isn't he will refer me to have an Ultrascan.. Thanks for your advice will check about tests for Hashimoto's but after last bloods done everything was Normal, which I constantly question.

If you've taken Omeprazole at all, you are probably now deficient in magnesium and B12. Be a good idea to get them checked.
