Lexilou, your doctor obviously doesn't understand that the T3 in NDT will suppress TSH. Your FT3 is low and you are undermedicated in my opinion. Increase by 1/2 grain every couple of weeks until your symptoms resolve.
Thanks clutter, told my DR this but he is not very thyroid savvy treats by TSH only, on the plus side I finally got my ft3 tested . I have an appointment to see an endo next week are there any other tests I should be asking for.
Lexilou, the tests we usually recommend are TSH, FT4, FT3 and thyroid peroxidase (TPOab) for autoimmune thyroid disease. Vits and minerals recommended are ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate as these are often low or deficient in hypothyroid patients.
My results are similar to yours. He also says I am overmedicated. When I queried this he said the symptoms must have another cause (and has commissioned a whole load more tests) and said the T3 is at its lowest at the time of the test because you don't take meds before the test so isn't a reliable indicator.
I know this goes against everything said here but I am staying open minded until the test results. My doctor was talking about cortisol in particular.
I know also many other deficiencies and illnesses have the same symptoms as being hypo.
I have had all the tests and my cortisol is low but unfortunately the NHS do not treat this, I have been working on getting all my vitamin levels raised too, hope you get to the bottom of your symptoms if not thyroid related.
I am with clutter on this. It is difficult to understand how your GP thinks you are over medicated with a T3 below the top quartile of the reference range. Many of us need to achieve low TSH levels like yours, or even suppressed, to feel well, and certainly higher T3.
