Hi' I have been avidly reading ,root cause hashimoto, by Isabella wentz and bought gaps diet book. Which I'm attempting to follow for myself and get my autistic daughter to eat some of the foods. Has anyone done the diet and is successful at improving symptoms of thyroid hashimotos or autism? I'd love to reverse my thyroid like wentz did and be drug free. I'd like to get my antibodies down to zero.

I have read both books and they are good. Am afraid I have only tried being gluten free. My anti-bodies are still raised - but that could be caused by other factors. I take supplements - lots. I wish you well on your journey - as I truly believe our health is in our hands - and in the foods we choose to eat....
Are you taking any selenium? 200 mgc/day could help in lowering your antibodies.
I've read Isabella's book also. Have gone gluten free and feel bit better for it, however not perfect. Have also been listening to Ray Peats ideas on thyroid.
My plan is to run a couple more tests incl vit b12 & a comprehensive stool test, start taking selenium and if that doesn't help try a bit of t3. I'd love to get my antibodies down to 0 too or lower rather than higher which is the current pattern. I am looking forward to the Hashis summit though next week. Have you signed up?
no i havent signed up to the summet. however I have got solgar selenium 100mg gluten free tablets which i am taking and 10 billion cfu probiotics have just started. i fancy doing stool sample for parasites, but did take ovex banana syrup 5ml just to kill off anything that might be lurking in my intestines, and im going to re worm my cat and de flea her again now summer is over. i havent checked b 12 but want to and ferritin levels i might have hair mineral analysis done to see what i am low in. i might do garlic capsules and parsley tablets to l keep my intestines ugly bacteria free.
Hi minus what is ovex banana syrup never heard of it ?
its a drug called Mebendazole works by preventing the worms (thread worms, hook worms etc) from absorbing sugars which they need to survive. This kills the worm within a few days. Although mebendazole kills adult worms, it does not kill the eggs. Because of this it is important to break the cycle of re-infection. This can be done by treating everyone living in your house at the same time (even if they do not have any symptoms), and by following the advice given in the section below called 'Getting the most from your treatment', to prevent re-infection. I havent got worms as far as I know this was to make sure i didnt have any!
I have hypo but several of our members have found Isabella's book very helpful.

I had done the GAPS diet to heal my gut because I had multiple food intolerances which became a million times worse after a lot of courses of antibiotics for a massive dental infection. The book made a lot of sense to me and I already knew a bit about gut flora and its role. What I didn't know was how many probiotics one could take in order to improve things. I ended up on huge doses (she tells you in the book how to know when you've reached your personal max), and I tried introducing foods I had previously become allergic to with great success.
I am still a work in progress, so to speak, but feel much better in myself and am able to eat a wider range of foods which is expanding every day. I did GAPS for nearly a year before reaching this stage, and I have yet to see whether it's had any effect on my thyroid blood tests, but I do think now that I've probably got the healthiest gut I've had since birth, because I started off badly and it was downhill from then on with health problems including 2 lots of cancer.
However, I'm still here, and I think GAPS is absolutely wonderful. I would recommend it to anyone, whatever their problem, because a healthy gut populated with all the correct bacteria is going to have a beneficial knockon effect. The fact that Dr Natasha Campbell McBride developed this way of eating to help her autistic son (and succeeded) is mind-blowing and should be shouted from the rooftops.
Good luck.
I have been gluten and lacto free for the last 4 months, after reading Izabella Wentz and others and just had an anti body test result back (private TPO through Blue horizon) I do not have antibodies!!! I was well over the limit last Christmas! So I was really pleased about that as I was feeling better. However, I also had a private urine/Iodine test, just got the results in (have just come back from holiday) My levels are horrendous: 20 micrograms per litre, should be at least 150-200 micrograms per litre!!! Need to ponder what to do next. I did buy some Lugol's Iodine and have bought the book "Iodine why you need it" by David Brownstein. I have read some of it but it looks as though I need to do some serious homework and I would welcome any comments
