Here I thought we were doing so well....

Over the last 6 months I have been working with a doctor and she diagnosed me with Hashimoto's and put me on NDT. We have been raising it every month by 1/4 grain until now I am at 1 3/4 grain. I called her two weeks ago on a Monday on her direct line, according to our monthly schedule, and said that we needed to raise it again. She did not get back to me, which is unusual, and I thought maybe she was on holiday. On Friday I called the office and they said she had been in and would check to see if she got my message. The next Monday I received a phone call. She stated that I was on a pretty high does of NDT (At 1 3/4? What?) and she would not raise it without doing a blood test first. I agreed and she said she would order the blood test. I never received the blood test order. I called the lab and they said they had not received the order. I called on Wednesday and no response. I called her office and left a message and no response. I feel like she is just fobbing me off. I am so frustrated.

Asmile4u, can you order your own labs and we'll interpret for you? Alternatively, raise your dose by 1/4 grain and wait for the bloods request.

If she orders it, then my insurance will pay for it. Also, I can not get additional NDT unless she orders it. The only thing I have, other than my regular does, is some 1 1/2 grains that were left over from the last time she raised my dose and they come in capsules so I am not sure how I would divide it. If I switch doctors then I will have to drive over an hour to the office. My husband wants me to just wait and see if something shows up next week.

Asmile4u, that's a bummer :( Suggest you phone and pester daily until you get the labs request.

Sounds to me like she's in some sort of trouble herself. But that's just a guess.

Personally, I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to stop at that dose for a while to see how it goes. It takes a dose of T4 (included in the NDT) almost 6 weeks to be converted into T3, so your T4 might have some catching up to do. So, why not give it a rest for a couple of weeks, see how you go, and then start trying to contact her again. And if she does have personal problems, that would give her the time to sort herself out.

That might sound like a crazy idea. If it does, start buying your own NDT on-line and up your dose yourself. You can't force her to do anything she doesn't want to do.

Hugs, Grey

Makes sense. I just wish they would tell me what is going on instead of ignoring me. Then I could make a reasonable plan of action. It is the not knowing that is the worst. I went years without knowing what was wrong...Sigh!

Know what you mean! I've been hypo all my life and wasn't diagnosed until I was 55. I thought Woopee! the end of all my problems! Had I known, it was only the beginning!

But medical people seem to have a horror of telling you what's going on. There have been times when I have had to make terrible scènes to find out. But they still don't tell you the whole truth. If only they would stop thinking we're all idiots who 'can't understand', and be open and above board. I'm sure we'd all get on a lot better. Sigh.
