newly diagnosed graves disease have a cough ... - Thyroid UK
newly diagnosed graves disease have a cough which is driving me mad what can i take ?
Schap, I drink hot/warm water with honey and a thick slice of lemon to cope with tickly dry coughs. When woken at night the oiliness of the honey water soothes the throat when plain water doesn't.
If the cough persists you should see your doctor.
thank you as of yesterday, the cough has eased a little which makes me feel so happy its still there but no nearly as bad and not retching with it either
just the sleeplessness, excessive sweating (So embarrassing) and tremors to get rid of !!!
thanks yes i did try honey and lemon with it but to no avail
but since yesterday there has been an improvement in my cough....not so often or making me retcch so thats great
just exccessive sweating, tremors, palpitations and lack of sleep now !
You're not by any chance taking lisinopril for high blood pressure are you? There is a well known side effect known as 'the lisinopril cough'
Saying that I also have a sort of cough - more like a constant need to clear my throat, and if I have phlegm or something stuck on my throat all the time. I sleep well so it obviously doesn't bother me when I drop off to sleep.

hi there no not taking any other pills aprt from carbimazole
That's a pain - at least it could have explained things if you had been.
What about trying a daily antihistamine for a couple of weeks then and seeing what happens?
The sweating, tremors and palpitations and sleepless nights - ah, I remember them well. Believe it or not and I know it is hard to believe but all that will go once your treatment kicks in.
You can be given beta blockers or amitriptyline to help stop the palps if they are bad. Never had beta blockers because I had asthma but I had a short spell with the amitriptiline which I phased out myself once the palps stopped.
hi sorry meant to say also been taking cetrizine anti allergy too.
cant take betablockers as have mild asthma
so just a waiting game with the carbimazole
sweat dripping off me as i type !! and just so exhausted. due to lack of sleelp...but at least ive been diagnosed
gp says 6-8 weeks before full effects kick in for carbimazole and only been 2 weeks and 1 day.......
That's a pain - unless you could go back and persuade your doc to give you amitriptiline - it is an old fashioned anti depressant (I think) but my doc said it is mostly used as a painkiller these days. I was worried about getting addicted - she said in the quantities I would be taking that wasn't likely - which was why I phased it out as soon as the palps stopped.
I've got one of these scarf things - see link below - this is my second one - the granules dried up on my last one which was also much prettier but this does the job just as well. I wear it outside and also sleep in it if the weather is really hot. I've also had a 'chillow' in the distant past and that was good but again, it got well past its best and I haven't felt that I wanted to stump up that amount of money again. All depends on how desperate you get. I suppose but the neck scarf is reasonable and it works. Surprisingly wetting it and putting it on in bed doesn't seem to make the bed wet. The other thing I have read is to rinse a linen shirt out cold water, squeeze the excess water out and wear it, that might help you for around the house / garden.
Fresh pineapple juice is supposed to be good for coughs - although I can't say it's done much for mine! If you find a cure, please let me know because my cough is driving me nuts, too.
I've tried talking to doctors about it. All they do is get their stethascopes out and say well, there's nothing wrong with your chest. I say I know there isn't, it's coming from my throat! But they just look at me as if I just stepped off another planet and change the subject. Makes me laugh when I'm told you should see your doctor about this. Yeah, right.
Hugs, Grey
yes i know greygoose....awful isnt it our chests maybe clear but that damn cough wont go !! im actually bit less 'coughy' since yesterday....as in my cough doesnt make me retch anymore. its still there, but just seems a little less troublesome.
all the other symptoms are still in full force though...esp the excessive sweating not a good time of year to get graves is it ?
totally
