I have Hashimotos and have been on T4 and T3 for six years. During the six years I have had low blood pressure, usually below 110/70 but I

have been taking NDT only, for the last two weeks and my blood pressure has increased to 130/85. Would this be caused by NDT?

Blood pressure has to do with thyroid also? Mine is usually 90x60!

Jaie, have you had a thyroid blood test since switching to NDT? Perhaps you should check that you aren't over or under medicated which might affect BP.

Thanks for the replies. Clutter I haven't had a blood test since I started on NDT as I live in France and can't tell my Endo I am taking NDT. I believe NDT is illegal in France.

Jaie, it's certainly illegal to import it. Post your most recent thyroid bloods, the amount of T4 and T3 you were taking and how much NDT you've switched to and we'll have a looky. It's hard to see why switching from T4 and T3 to NDT which contains both would cause a rise in BP if you've got the NDT dose roughly equivalent.

TSH 0,015 (0.47 - 4.68)

T4 14.00 (10.00 - 28.20)

T3 6.34 (4.00 - 8.30)

I was taking 100mcg of T4 and 45mcg of T3.

I stopped the T4 and T3 and started on 1 grain, felt fine so increased the dose every few days until I was on 4 grains. After a few days I had a tight feeling in my chest and felt breathless so I reduced the dose and I am now on 2 grains. Thanks for your help.

Jaie, I think the reason for your BP rising is likely that you increased NDT too quickly and too much and overmedicated. 4 grains is roughly equivalent to 300mcg T4. 45mcg T3 plus 100mcg T4 is roughly equivalent to 235mcg T4.

Thanks again, I will stay on 2 grains and see how I feel.
