Vitamin D: How much is recommended to take per... - Thyroid UK
Vitamin D
sheenah, according to the Vitamin D Council you'd need to be taking 40,000 IU per day for months.
Sheenah, how much you need depends on your vitD level. If you don't know 2-5,000iu daily won't hurt. Toxicity is unlikely <8,000iu daily.
My level was 27 and Doc put me on 9000iu a day for three months which brought it up to 169 , am now on 3000iu a day maintenance . It would be a hood idea to get your levels tested ,Good luck
My level was originally at 12. Doctor put me on a super prescription dose (I don't remember how much) for a couple of weeks. Then she dropped it down to 10,000 daily for a few months, tested again and it came out on the high end of normal. This was during the winter. She said in the summer to drop it to 5,000 daily and see how I feel, but in the winter to boost to 10,000 a day. She said that dosage was safe.
A lot of people who have Hashi/Hypo feel better on higher doses of Vitamin D.
