24hr urine test

I have been asked to do a 24 hr urine test, doctor said to test my adrenaline? This is as I have been getting sinus tachycardia....is this the same as adrenal testing please? Had my thyroid removed 10 years ago.

is this for dr moult on

It can be to test catecholamines (dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine) in the urine which is part of adrenal testing or it can be used for kidney function or both.

Thank you, the doc didn't elaborate, just said to test my adrenaline, I had asked about adrenal testing and he said we could do this test.

This test looks at urinary catecholamines and metanephrines. It does not to my knowledge test for cortisol specifically. When it it high, although rare, it is used to rule out a hormone secreting excess by the adrenal glands which can cause tachycardia along with other symptoms. Usually panic attacks, sweating, elevated blood pressure, elevated pulse. I have had the test done and it was normal but normally it does take a few weeks to come back. Are they also checking the blood levels at the same time and have you had your blood cortisol checked?

hi waiting anxiously for my urine test bottles to test for catecholomines???.to be delivered tomorrow..with beta=blockers...been suffering the above symptoms for over 1 month, getting more frequent and intense...so hoping it will lead to a diagnoses...even though it could be an adrenal, tumour,my father died of renal carcin++oma, involving adrenals....obviously hoping for the shorter non=cancerous version...

Good luck AnnLaura. if indeed a pheochromocytoma, these are treated relatively easily with surgery.

To clarify, this test is NOT the one to do if you want to check adrenal function with regards to cortisol and DHEA. This test looks at pathology. If you want to check cortisol I would recommend a saliva test. You could also request at 24 hour urine test to collect for cortisol but I dont think this is the one. Anyone here, please correct me if I am wrong :(

urine bottle delivered today, doing it sun.a.m/.mon.am.labelled.VMA/5HIAA?...CLINICAL DETAILS..shakey episodes and high bp.??.phaeo.INVESTIGATIONS..catecholamines & Metadrenalines..Is this the right one ??/Can the dr's. do a saliva cortisol test?...any one know..

Thank you...my bloods were tested two weeks ago, doc has decreased my levothyroxine...this is all frustrating...I guess I am going to have to pay out to have tests done to try and work out what is the cause! You feel you are getting no support from docs whatsoever...I was advised to have cortisol test by someone on another site, so I wanted to check that this test the doc is doing wasn't that.
