T3 (Liothyronine) is a prescription-only medicine - which is a legal status that means it is illegal for anyone to supply it in the UK without a prescription. If someone in the UK is offering T3, it is deeply suspicious and I would not trust them. If you see someone offering T3 in the UK, it might well be a body-builder supplement that isn't liothyronine, or the actual person is abroad, or it is a con, or they are acting illegally.

GPs don't like prescribing T3 as it is very expensive! In addition there are concerns over long term impact on osteoporosis and atrial fibrillation.

I have reduced my T4 and introduced and gradually increased T3 - but I am having to buy my own. The less T4 I have and the more T3, the better I feel. He also found I had severe adrenal fatigue due to so many years of T4-only, so I am taking NutriAdrenal as well.

Hello cc120 I am doing the same as you reduced T4 and upped T3 (Endo did it), but I have taken T4 only for nigh on 19 years and fear that that has done a lot of damage, aches and pains, depression weight gain and on and on. Still trialling T3 but no improvement yet. With regard to the Adrenals had short synthathen test done some years ago but they said it was negative.

Here is a link for a thread, which includes the following post, which refutes T3 impact on osteoporisis and artrial fibrillation:

Clutter - It's difficult to see why your GP wants to reduce your meds unless GP is panicking about low TSH and FT4. Taking T3 causes both to be low but some GPs worry unnecessarily that there is increased risk of atrial fibrillation and osteoporosis from taking T3. They are wrong, it's naturally elevated FT3 in hyperthyroidism that can cause AF and OP not thyroid hormone replacement.
