Vit D3 can I increase my dose?? - advice please.

Having had an initial diagnosis of Hashimotos, with possible Adrenal Fatigue and yet more blood tests pending results, I have been on 4,000iu's of Lamberts Vit D3 per day since I first saw my new specialist; This was the 23rd of April.

It feels like another life-time as I have a blurred concept of time...

My initial score after 5 months on elevated doses of Adcal had only improved 3 points from an initial score of 25, to a dizzy 28.

Its not quite been a month, but I have to say I cannot say I have felt any improvement in my pain levels whatsoever.

However, I must add that during this time I have worked out by a process of elimination that I am also more than likely gluten/wheat intolerant.

No doubt a 'leaky gut' will prejudice mineral and vitamin uptake.... I can understand the link perfectly.

Despite thinking that 4,000iu's worth of Vit D3 sounds like a great deal, I know of somebody who was started on 20,000iu's, which in comparison to my dose sounds like telephone numbers to me!

When upon my last visit to the specialist last week, I asked him if 4,000iu's was enough, as I was still feeling so bad and in so much pain, he told me that it was.

Having become so disillusioned, and so sceptical of everybody who sits behind a medical desk, I was wondering if anybody here could shed some light upon my request. Could I without causing any problems, possibly double my dose to 8,000iu's for a while, as a boost?

I ask as my feet in particular let alone anything else, are so very painful, I can hardly walk as I feel as though I have been beaten on the soles of my feet.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank-you.

Adcal is not the right D3 supplement unless you have kidney disease. No idea how effective Lamberts are.

If you have a lot of bone/joint pain you should have your calcium level checked and definitely before upping your D3 dose. High calcium is serious so you should know what your level is and keep track over time.

Thank-you for your reply.

I may not have expressed myself correctly, but I am no longer taking Adcal.

The Lamberts format contains as follows:

Modified Starch

Cellulose

Vitamin D3

Silicone Dioxide

Stearic Acid

Magnesium Sterarate

My blood test result for serum Calcium was 2.31 (2.2 - 2.6 range)

I hope that helps?

I am new to all this...

This is an extract from the above link, which might help:

"How Much Vitamin D Should You Take?

Some 40 leading vitamin D experts from around the world currently agree that there's no specific dosage level at which "magic" happens; rather the most important factor when it comes to vitamin D is your serum level (the level of vitamin D in your blood). So you really should be taking whatever dosage required to obtain a therapeutic level of vitamin D in your blood.

Vitamin D

That said, based on the most recent research by GrassrootsHealth—an organization that has greatly contributed to the current knowledge on vitamin D through their D* Action Study—it appears as though most adults need about 8,000 IU's of vitamin D a day in order to raise their serum levels above 40 ng/ml.4 For children, many experts agree they need about 35 IU's of vitamin D per pound of body weight.

At the time GrassrootsHealth performed the studies that resulted in this dosage recommendation, the optimal serum level was believed to be between 40 to 60 ng/ml. Since then, the optimal vitamin D level has been raised to 50-70 ng/ml, and when treating cancer or heart disease, as high as 70-100 ng/ml, as illustrated in the chart above.

What this means is that even if you do not regularly monitor your vitamin D levels (which you should), your risk of overdosing is going to be fairly slim even if you take as much as 8,000 IU's a day. However, the only way to determine your optimal dose is to get your blood tested regularly, and adjust your dosage to maintain that goldilocks' zone."

Thank-you.

'Goldilocks Zone' that's what I shall be aiming for!

I am so grateful for this forum!

Thank-you so much. I had no idea about Vit D3 existing as drops... and I did not know Lamberts use so many fillers. I shall investigate and follow your excellent advice.

Again, many thanks.
