What dose of Vit D please.

Hi

past results for vit D.

24/10/12 - 35 nmol/l

16/9/13 - 186nmol/l

12/3/15 - 118 nmol/l

started supplementing in 2012, dropped down to 1000iu after the 2013 test and have been taking that dose most days :) since then. Have not had any more tests, don't want to push my luck and cannot really afford to pay at the moment.

So I need to buy more D3. The Doctors best 5000iu are such a good price, but does D3 need to be taken daily or can you take a higher dose less often. I am aware you can overdose so I will look for more 1000iu if that is the best course of action.

Thank you.

carnation You should really test Vit D once or twice a year when supplementing, according to City Assays (Birmingham's City Hospital) who do the home blood spot tests. It's often not necessary to take quite so much in the summer, especially if you go out in the sun when it's at it's highest, for 20 minutes with skin uncovered and without sunscreen.

When I lowered my dose I was using Doctor's Best 5000iu softgels and I continued with them but for just maybe 3 days a week. I now take a combined D3/K2-MK7/Vit A and the D3 content is 2000iu and I take that most days at the moment.

If you want to continue with Doctor's Best, they do a 2000iu tub of 180 capsules for £7.85 which you could take alternate days bodykind.com/product/brand/...

Thank you, I will investigate the lower dose ones. I am avoiding the GP as far as possible as the last comment was that I am overmedicated!!

Snap! She was looking at results 15 months old and didn't suggest re-testing just reducing dose, stupid ****. So I've done my own thing and it's now been 3 years since I've had an NHS test.

You can get a Vit D test from City Assays for £28 vitamindtest.org.uk/index.html

Hi yes I am lying low after being told I was overmedicated as TSH is virtually nothing. I have not reduced dose and I will post those results as well if only I can find them!! Will look at City Assays but have not worked since end of November. Now chilled but poor :)

What's the make of the combined you take? I take individually so that would be good.

This is the one

I haven't worked out the cost compared with individual supplements.

Thorne and Nutri Advanced do D3/K2 drops but there's no Vit A in those.

Carnation,

Endo advised me 5,000iu per week would be sufficient after I over did it a couple of years ago. I double it during the winter and drop back in the Spring. VitD has been >100 when tested in April each year.

Thank you Clutter. I have never taken 5000iu, I was on 2000iu when I was 186, so I didn't want to overdose. But I will try alternate days until the summer.. Thank you for your reply.
