Yes you can request a print off although they are entitled to make a small charge for printing.

Its usually £50. Its supposed to be "upto" £50, but if you are getting your whole records then it will most likely be the full charge anyway. Theres also an admin fee, which is included in the £50, and dont expect them quickly, they have 40 working days to provide them, and they usually make you wait until the very last minute, or mine did, but the practice manager is an evil bitch (no appologies), so nearly 2 months in total.

£50 seems fair to me (once i find the money lol) im not sure what our practice manager is like but most of the rceptionists are lovely and ive known a couple since mum was there, one even knows my name........guess that shows how often im there

I was charged £50 for a copy of all my notes. The charge is set by law, so they can't charge any more than this.

A few things to be aware of. A doctor - probably the one you are registered with - goes through your notes and decides whether or not you will be "harmed" by seeing the things that are written about you. If they decide you could be, they remove that page or references to particular incidents. Also, over the decades notes got summarised and the originals shredded (or so I've been led to believe...), and some probably get lost or mis-filed. I was shocked by how much was missing from my notes. Nothing at all survives from my childhood before the age of 10. Then a very few random bits and pieces survive up to 1997 (which was when I moved to my current surgery - I was well into my 30s by then), then the notes become a bit fuller from then on. But even quite recent notes can be sparse.

So, just be prepared...

i might go for all of the notes rather than the last year

i can see my notes being very few from the last year especially seeing the dr who accused me of making things up is the dr im registered with

id rather see it all than have lots missed out as after all its my health they are talking about so surely i have the rights to see everything

I have just this morning taken a reminder to the Pharmacist for copies of my Medication Record for the past 5 years. I gave them 8 weeks ( 40 working days) as they have to reply to this request under the Freedom of Information Act 1998 within this time limit. I do not know what the charge for this will be yet. If I think it is too much, I will make them go right back as far as they can and pay the £50. Janet.

Best to apply in writing. Make it formal so you can follow up if they get difficult
