Hello. I just collected my new prescription of Liothyronine Sodium 20mg and I'm not sure how to take them. I'll continue on 100mg Thyroxine (down from 150mg) - do I take them together in the am? Or take the T3 at night? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks
New to T3 - help?: Hello. I just collected my new... - Thyroid UK
New to T3 - help?
Not a recommendation, but simply to say I take my T3 & 4 together. I used to take them in the morning, but as I take anti-hypertensives in the morning I now take both my thyroid meds at bedtime. Good luck
Thank-you
Start very slowly ie 5mcgs (i/4 tablet) twice a day. Increase after one week to 10mcgms (ie half a tablet).
Reduce T4 more than you think.
T3 can be increased very slowly but leave a week between each alteration.
I didn't really feel well until all T4 had gone out of my body, that is eight weeks after the last dose.
Read "Recovering with T3" by Paul Robinson.
I am now reading it for the fifth time. Every time I absorb more information.
Good Luck!
This may sound dumb, but how do you split the pills - they're tiny... Thanks
I have a pill cutter which I have found to be USELESS. The best way that I have found is to use a sharp knife and whilst holding the pill which my left finger and thumb push down on the pill with the knife between the other fingers. I use a cheese board which came free with Christmas cheeses! I have had to use one quarter of a pill to increase to 15mcgms over time and so I then cut the half a pill into two quarters. As you get more adjusted to your required dosage you may need to do that as well. It doesnt matterif you end up with crumbs - a wet finger will mop up these. I have gradually increased my dosage and now I am on 40 mcgms taken at 4.15am - 20mcgms. 11am 10mcmgs and 4pm 10mcgms and I am improving weekly after suffering for fifteen years or more. Good luck to you!
You can also just turn them into powder, using a knife, and every now and then dip a damp finger into the powder, taking care to only take a tiny amount at a time.
chemists sell pill cutters...very cheap
