The doctor has suggested for Thyroxine 25 microgram tablets to be taken. I have symptoms of irregular menstrual cycle and weight gain. Please suggest me the methods of reducing weight. I am much worried now.

WorriedHead,

Yes, you are hypothyroid and I imagine you're feeling very poorly at the moment. When has your doctor told you to return for a follow up blood test? 25mcg is a very low dose. 50/75mcg is usually the starter dose for people under 60 without heart problems.

Irregular cycle is a symptom of hypothyroidism and should regulate when your Levothyroxine medication is increased and stabilises your condition.

There is a pinned link Weight Gain/Loss which may help you. Gluten-free and Paleo Diets are thought to be helpful plus exercise when you're well enough but crash dieting is NOT recommended.

Clutter,

Thank you for your response. My doctor has asked me to take me a blood test next three months from now. I had visited a Gynecologist two days back for my irregular menstrual cycle and she suggested me for a thyro check. This led to the blood test and the results which I had put earlier. I will consult a Endocrinologist ASAP for a second opinion.

I have strong faith in Yoga and it is told that few postures helps to control thyroid hormonal secretions. I will check on the two diets you have mentioned now. I am so determined to bring this issue under control so will start working out right from tomorrow. Will keep posting in the changes. I hope all my fellow mates support me on the same.

3 months is a long time to wait to be retested, usually 6 weeks as I'm sure you will need to increase your meds by then. It takes about 6 weeks to be stable on a dose. If you have a follow up appointment with the Gynaecologist around the 6 weeks stage you could use that to tell your GP that an update could be useful. Well done to the Gynaecologist for suggesting the testing!

Thanks for the suggestion. I would follow it for sure. But for sure I am going to consult a Endocrinologist and will update their opinion too.
