Help! Trying hard to diet, what can I have (besides fruit) that is sweet -I soooo miss chocolate
i make lots of sugar free jelly...no calories.. can have as much as you want
Try choc shot, you can get it from most supermarkets, its liquid choc but not actually choc made out of natural ingredients and virtually calorie free! You can add it to anything, yoghurt, fruit, skimmed milk, porridge....yummy!!
Wow thanks. You don't know what aisle it would be in in the supermarket? Must look for
It tomorrow
This is an article, if you haven't read it before, which may interest you.
diet hot chocolate...
Yes have got some but I find this moreish so can only have one, thanks for helping
could make into a mocha..Half coffee and half diet hot chocolate...add little milk, and a little stevia, or splenda...(could even make that bigger in a blender, with ice cubes etc) then it be an iced mocha..or something similar
A good idea but sorry cant put coffee in my chocolate ugh
LOL...Im trying to think of stuff Ive learned over the years, but go blank. I use to use low cal sweetners in my tea etc when I wanted a sweet fix, and extra bit of honey as well...Ive now switched to stevia in last few years, and some brands are better than others in taste (its all natural though)..I often add a drip of honey too...then its mega sweet tea..(I have big sweet tooth). I did lose 70 pounds and kept it off 20 years (that's lots, cant convert to stone right now) I nearly flipped gaining weight all of a sudden, cause was eating good, workin out...STUPID THYROID! Oh ya...starbucks sells no sugar syrups for drinks.(.they are pretty good)..
Chocolate chip rice cakes - I'm doing weight watchers and they are great for sweet cravings. 62 calories each . Good luck x
You need to read I quit sugar by Sarah Wilson - she has hashimotos and wrote a recipe book with lots of sweet alternatives. I made her sugar free Nutella - it was amazing <3
Thank you hope I don't get carried away with nice recipes
Dutch the sugar. Go cold turkey for 2 weeks and then you won't even fancy it any more.
I am really trying but I've cut out wheat, potatoes so it's hard
Just take each day as it comes and tell yourself "I'm just going to cut out the bad stuff today". That way it's achievable rather than having a daunting task to xo template. Get a good book and plan your meals with it and shop accordingly. You can do it. Good luck.
You can get sugar-free chocolate - and lots of choices of very low sugar chocolate. Most supermarkets sell at least 70% chocolate which doesn't leave room for that much sugar!

Agree cold turkey is the only way to go. When I did weightwatchers, I stopped eating it, which was an amazing achievement for me and after a couple of weeks without you really do stop craving it. Easy to fall off the wagon though. If I have so much as a nibble, I'm right back into scoffing a bar territory! I'm always deeply suspicious of anyone able to keep a bar for ages and have a square a day. It's unnatural!! I find cooked fruit, say apple, with some half spoon sugar and a little bit of low fat custard is a good sweet hit, or a crumpet with a teaspoon of jam. I started alpro soya chocolate desserts, but then realised eating soya was not good for us hypo types. WW do lots of bars and things, but I think they are toxic - filled with all sorts of rubbish as are most 'diet' foods. Good luck!
Hi Lily55,
Try everything but ultimately, you must do what works for You!
I found the 5:2 approach the easiest for me to cope with. I was very strict with myself from Monday to Friday with the knowledge that I could splurge a little at the weekend - which was useful as that's when the family are usually around and I can be more relaxed if I'm socialising.
Over the weekends, I allowed myself either one bar of Bourneville dark chocolate - which means I get the health benefits of 70% plus pure chocolate without feeling too guilty. I can either eat it all in one go or spread it over the two days. So far so good. Weight loss appears to be slow but steady.
Unfortunately, I have had to completely write things like Jaffa Cakes, KitKat dark or bourbon biscuits out of my diet as I appear to lose all control of my willpower whenever I'm in close proximity to them. I've even taken to wearing dark glasses when I get to the tills of my local newsagents or supermarket - extreme I know, but needs must!
Wish you all the very best - you won't regret any of the suffering once you reach your desired weight.
'Chocs AWAY!'
Don't eat or drink any diet stuff - it makes you crave sweet things more and upsets your blood sugar perhaps more than real sugar. You could try zylosweet or stevia as a sweetener. If you go cold turkey and eat enough protein, you generally stop craving sweet things and also everything tastes sweeter, too. You can get raw cacao powder (which is not a biter as cocoa) and add that to things. Although honey is very sweet, it also contains minerals etc so you could have a teaspoon of that every day.
Hello, my friend gave me this sugar-free flapjack recipe which is yummy! It does have butter in, but you could cut it into small pieces!
No sugar flapjack
150g butter
225g porridge oats
100g chopped dried apricots
150g chopped dried dates
4tbsp orange juice
Melt the butter in a big pan.
In another pan heat the dried fruit and orange juice and cook for about 5 mins till the fruit is quite squidgy and sticky enough to hold the oats together
Mix the fruit, juice, butter and oats together
Squash into a lined square tin
Bake at 190 for about 25 mins
Let the flapjack cool for at least 30 minutes before getting out of the tin and cooling
Emma x
Really want to try this. Can you freeze it do you think that would stop me eating it all in one go. Thanks for the recipe
Hmm I'm not sure. If you had a smaller tin you could do half but I think it might go funny if you froze it. I got a big bag of pitted dates in poundland the other day, winner!
Well done I love the £ shops just have to avoid the sweets aisle and stick to the nuts (that's food nuts not human nuts)
Lol good tip. Lidl is good for non-human nuts!
Fruit tea sometimes is just sweet enough for me to avoid cravings. Also, sugar snap peas and carrots can be nice healthy alternative, and a bit different to fruit, and fairly filling if you have a portion.
Also, low fat yoghurt with a few nuts and a drizzle of honey can be a satisfying desert. When I did the South Beach Diet, ricotta cheese with some cocoa mixed in served me well (but if counting calories you have you watch out you don't eat too big a portion of the ricotta).
You might also find low carb cookies suitable for you? Or low cal cracker/rice cake with a very thin layer of peanut butter?
Cocoa nibs are chocolatey without being sugary. Don't know if they will help you or if you need the sweetness. I used to do frozen fruit lollies, which take longer to eat than fruit. Pineapple is my favourite. You can buy the trays to freeze them in or diy with ice cube trays and toothpicks.
Liquorice is both very tasty and very sweet. The deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) does not have the same issues as "normal" liquorice but can still taste good. Some don't have any sugars. Some have sugars but very little overall. Be careful, some contain sorbitol and other sweeteners which can disagree with some people.

They even do a chocolate one:

There are other sources but it was easiest for me to give you these links.

I remember having licorice wood as a kid got it from the chemist. Not seen it for years
The forerunners to Heath and Heather who were (I think) the forerunners to Holland and Barrett, in the city I lived in, used to sell it! And it is still readily available - first hit here:
