Adrenal stress profile and coffee.

Hello. Apologises for typing errors in advance. I am using my phone to type this, stuck in bed.

I am doing adrenal stress profile today. Collected 1st sample at 9 am, that was a struggle. It took 30 minutes of spitting ( sorry for graphic description, I don't know how else to say this ;) ) to get required 2 ml of saliva, I was surprised how little saliva I can produce in the morning :(

My question is : CAN I drink COFFEE today while I am collecting my samples?

I am aware that no food or drink is allowed up to 1 hour before sample collection but : Can I drink coffee in between samples as long as it is further away than 1 h from sampling? I phoned Genova with many questions but I forgot to ask about coffee.

Thank you for your comments.

Also: I assume I keep samples in a fridge for next 24 h( today and overnight before sending) thats what instruction indicates.

You must freeze the samples as soon as you have produced them! The instructions mention this - look on the page that says "Step 2 Collecting your saliva specimens" at the top, then look at number 4 further down the page :

This particular test is one that can be redone if you make a mistake. You can empty the tubes, rinse them out thoroughly with water, let them dry naturally, and restart the saliva collection process another day. Because the samples get frozen you could redo the saliva collection and get it all done in plenty of time for collecting it by courier on Monday morning, or post it at the post office asking for "guaranteed next day delivery" on Monday afternoon (you can't just shove it in a post box). In the meantime you could keep the freezer block in the freezer until you need to package it up and return it with the samples.

I don't know if drinking coffee will affect the results or not, but coffee isn't mentioned on the instructions, so presumably it won't matter.

Thank you Humanbean :) I have just phoned Genova, I can drink coffee, as long as it is 'away' from sample collecting. I wouldn't dream to shove into post box like a letter, that wouldn't be good. I keep in the freezer. Thank you for your help. E x

I know what you mean about how long it takes, I did mine on a working day and I was in the loo for about 20 mins at lunch time - god knows what people thought!! I also put the sample in the freezer at work :) My naturopath told me not to worry too much about what I did on the day, i.e. if I felt stressed or did exercise it wouldn't matter because it looks at more longer term levels. Hope that helps.
