I keep quail and thought I would pass on the health benefits of eating the eggs, very high in vits and minerals and good for the immune system, worth a read

Sounds good ! Don't think we can get them here in Crete. Perhaps we should have some in the olive grove....

Thank you for posting.. :-)

Amazing. I'm not sure I could eat one raw one never mind five. They're small though - wonder if you could swallow it whole - like a very big pill - and hope it disintegrated on the way down? :-)

They would be lovely for the olive grove although I think you would have to keep them caged - they are very small - think if they went 'free range' you would probably never see them again. You often see them in the bottom of a cage with flying birds over here.

I couldn't eat them raw either, we have them boiled with salads but we have fried and poached them as well. They have more yolk to white compared with chook eggs and they have a smoother texture.

They do have to be confined to a cage or shed as they are very flighty and if let out would disappear. I keep mine in a shed and they live in 5* luxury!!

I read a lot of conflicting information about quail's eggs. There are a number of 'miracle food' internet articles making the rounds but if you look up nutritional facts, quail's eggs and chicken eggs seem to virtually the same gram for gram except for cholesterol, which is almost three times higher in quail's eggs - ?

It would be lovely to keep some though. I wanted to keep chickens but between our foster terriers and London foxes it seems inadvisable. :-)

Quails eggs are much higher in vits and minerals and hdl good cholesterol compared to chicken eggs (which I also keep). They do not carry salmonella like chicken eggs and are known not to cause allergies and they are particularly good for Psoriasis sufferers. I've never heard of any negatives, they aren't a miracle food fad, they are what they are.

I haven't said anything negative about them. :-) I'm saying I read a lot of internet articles which promote them as a superfood but I see no evidence to suggest that they're significantly any more or less nutritionally valuable than any other type of egg.

I'd be interested in knowing more about the psoriasis connection (I suffer with it myself and it's a real nuisance), but I haven't read any substantiated opinions about that.

I'm very big on eggs, esp since I don't eat a lot of meat. I wondered if it was the eggs which were playing havoc with my skin when I last had a big outbreak but cutting them out didn't help. Back to square one. :-)
