Is anyone following the autoimmune protocol talked about on many sites ie no grains, no eggs, no dairy, nuts seeds, nightshades etc?

I'm going to give it a whirl for a fortnight to a month (already gluten free) to try to improve my gut. If anyone fancies joining me & comparing notes, please let me know. I've got Hashis and not on any meds.

I did think about doing this a while ago but I just think it would be so hard and no idea what I'd eat, plus I'd be completely miserable! Would love to hear how you get on though.

Mauledtodeath, please do let us know what you do find to eat, because it doesn't leave much, does it! Don't think I could live without eggs. I crave them! Why are they supposed to be bad?

Hugs, Grey

I will. I couldn't do it in the depths of winter but its easier with all the lovely berries about. I think you cut out the major allergens incl egg. Ill just live on fruit veg meat and fish. I gave up chocolate cheese a couple of years ago so it will be easy. Im doing well with no gluten but interested to see about nightshades as I generally eat loads of tomatoes.

I did consider it at one point...for about 5 minutes! I am sure it will work but I decided life is to short to be on such a spartan regime. Cutting out gluten, soy and goitrogens is bad enough. Good luck to you though and I hope it works. Please let us know how you get on.

Hi, mauledtodeath -

I have been selftreating over the last few years because I strongly suspected Hashi, Hypothyroidism etc but did not get diagnosed until recently.

I dropped gluten first, then sugar, then went paleo.

Finally, about six months ago I eliminated (one at a time) eggs, nightshades and dairy.

I found out that eggyolks are fine, well cooked eggwhites are ok in moderation.

Cow's cheese causes an ekzema flare, but heavy cream is ok.

Aged raw sheep's and goat's cheese, on the other hand, is fine.

I dreaded the nightshade trial because chillies, tomatoes, aubergines are a staple in my cooking. Sadly they cause a bunch of problems, mostly in the joints but also digestive.

Last week I had a few instances of not being able to avoid trigger foods and am now in the middle of (what I think is) a Hashi flare up.

These are, of course, just my experiences but I think it is worth reading up on the subject and doing an elimination trial.

I am also working on repairing my digestive tract - it is all a work in progress but I am seeing small improvements.

Good luck with finding out what works for you! Keep us posted!

I'm slowly going onto it. I've given up wheat gluten (still eat organic GABA rice from Thailand) and polystyrene-rice thins. I'm slowly leading up to being bean free, just about given up chocolate & nuts, I've been off milk and cheese for some time but still have butter on vegetables. I think the nightshades tomatoes, sweet pepper and especially potatoes are going to be a huge challenge but might try. Giving up eggs will also be a challenge. Although, if I can afford it, I might pay for the Cyrex Array tests that were continuously recommended on the Thyroid session and summit. That way I should find out what I'm sensitive to and be able to wave the results at family and friends that think I'm being awkward for no reason. Unfortunately I can only find one place that's doing the tests in the UK and she won't give me a price list! I have Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism but am losing weight slowly unintentionally as I eat more healthily. 1.70m 59kg two years ago. Have slowly cut out this and that and I'm 52kg now. Best of luck :) I'm intending on buying Chris Kressers My Personal Paleo diet and Izzy went's book

Hi I can PM a price list I have from local nutritional therapist for Cyrex arrays if you want. It's not for the faint hearted. Im cutting nightshades eggs dairy and nuts for a fortnight from today. Ive been dairy and gluten free for a few weeks. Difficult to know what to do with cross testing as you need to be eating stuff for it to show up. The multi autoimmune site one wud be handy to see if there are other things going on. I did an allergy test from York a few years ago and I wasnt convinced by the results which were basically everything I'd eaten the day before. Also said was deficient in b2 when Id been taking it for months. I think there was some false positivity/neg going on.
