I cant quite believe it but its done (just got to book the day off now). What should I do to prepare? I have been advised to do basal test?? Also, having started to read through the treatement process etc, should I start trying to self medicate? Appointment is still over a month away.

No, don't start to self-medicate. He knows his business and is hypo himself. He can tell at 100 paces whether or not the patient has a thyroid gland problem and tries his best to help.

shaws hi

I have asked this before but I guess I want reassurance. He will treat the symptoms wont he? I mean, you say he can tell at 100 paces - what if he takes one look at me and says 'its all in your head?'

Sandra, he won't, really. I've only read his book and I can tell he wouldn't do that. Can you get his book to read before you go? It is available on kindle too.

Thanks Harry - it makes for really interesting reading.

Read his book it will give you some insight as to what is what. I saw him in Febuary and he diagnoised me straight away and was worth the wait . I had done my Basal temps for a month before I met him along with my pulse and Blood Pressure morning readings and took this along with my blood test results from my GP.

It is not a quick fix and can take time to build up on medication to feel normal again.

He is a realy nice man and very sympathetic .

Well worth the wait and the cost.

Hi Tarot - may I ask, were you too refused support/assistance from GP due to 'normal' results? I must say, that I am really worried that he will still send me away with a flea in my ear. My bloods in the past have been deemed ‘normal’ but I have many of the symptoms that are listed in his book and have done for a long time now. I hope that I haven’t misinterpreted what I have read and that regardless he will treat the symptoms? !!

Hi Sandra,

I responded to the above with a long reply unfortunately I did this via my kindle and it appears to not have been sent ???

Sorry.

Your predicament is very much like mine and all I can say is have faith he is a very nice gentleman and the last thing he would do is ridicule you let alone send you away with a flea in your ear. :)

I will try again to send my kindle response meanwhile get reading his book , It is worth the cost and one of those texts that you can dip in and out off to check up on your concerns. x

I have been treated by Dr P. I was told by Drs it was in my head. I told Dr P it could be in my head as my bloods were within range. However, he immediately saw that this was not the case, put me on the right path and advised a couple of tests and what I should be taking to start the healing process. I strongly advise you don't self medicate prior to seeing Dr P as I think it is important for him to see you as you are. Also if he suggests any tests it maybe more beneficial to see your starting point. Your appointment will come round in no time.x

Hi Pooh10 - yes, this is all I have been told over the past 3 or so years. The main thing they have attributed this to is age - I was in my early 30's when this started!!!!!

Good luck SandraCC. I read his book 4 yrs ago when I was fighting an unhelpful GP for T3 and an Endo referral . I successfully used his list of symptoms for patients and signs for GPs to look out for, when putting my case together. I am building up to ask to see DrP too now. So I hope all goes well and do please let us know how it went :-)

Hi Hypno - Glad you convinced your GP. Mine still will ignore anything put in front of them and instead, give a 'knowing' look as if to affirm that it is all in my head!!!! I hope you get to see Dr P too.

Hi again SandraCC. I had to threaten a formal complaint against her, and as my practice knew I was formerly involved in investigating complaints against GPs on behalf of the Health Auth, I guess they didn't want the hassle. But what I think helped my case was that I provided photos of a friend's T3 tablet bottle showing contents, the date and her name, plus details of the prescribing Endo, as my GP said she had spoken to a local biochemist who said it was only ever prescribed in intensive care for patients at death's door, and was not for normal use!

Sorry to hear about your experience. I wonder when are the GP's finally going to listen. What will it take!

Hi, Just seen these posts - thanks so much all.

I am over to Amazon now to download the book.

Incidentally, the last TSH test that was done for me was last year and the reading was 1.09 in a range of 0.35-4.94

I feel the same as I did though when I finally got referred to an Endo 3 years ago when my result was 0.46 in the same range.

Hi all - have just read the first page alone and found the following which all apply to me:-

must keep reading 'general fatigue, weight gain and intractable coldness, had progressed to hair loss, bloating',

Durrant-Peatfield, Barry (2012-10-04). Your Thyroid and How to Keep it Healthy: Second edition of The Great Thyroid Scandal and How to Avoid It (Kindle Locations 87-88). Hammersmith Books Limited. Kindle Edition.

See if you can get copies of your blood tests in the past. I was given 19 years worth without even asking for that much. Dr P was able to tell from those that I had been suffering for nearly as many years and yet it was never picked up by the GP. So, take copies of blood test results incase he can spot anything particular to you. I have never been better by the way since seeing him. My only main issue still is inability to lose weight but as it happens, I am still hypo because I am still not on the optimum dose. Good luck. He is a really lovely man.

Hi Numberone1 - I posted the last two sets of results on here. Here they are ....'Incidentally, the last TSH test that was done for me was last year and the reading was 1.09 in a range of 0.35-4.94

I feel the same as I did though when I finally got referred to an Endo 3 years ago when my result was 0.46 in the same range. '

It was my T4 level that created the problem. Do you know yours? Mine had been bottom of the range or lower than range for all those years.

No, I dont know what mine is at present. My symptoms though match the majority of what he lists in Chapter 5 of his book.

Hi All

This is the first time I have been able to get on this website for weeks now. I had to go via Firefox -anyone else have this issue?

Anyway, I have had my appointment with Dr Peatfield and.... I am Hypothyroid. What a jolly man he is - no nonsense and humorous too. Anyway, got to keep a diary of how I am feeling over the next 6 weeks and drop him a line.

In addition to the Nutri Adrenal I am now taking Nutri Thyroid supplement.

I'm glad the consultation went well. Are NA and NT helping or is it too early to tell?

If you clear history and cache on your preferred browser then restart your device that might sort your access problem.

Hi Clutter

Thanks for the advice. Been toing and froing with the tech team on here and already tried this to no avail.

I suspect it is too early to tell whether this is working or not - I only hope it does.

Glad it went well, Sandra. I'll be going to see him in just over a week's time too. Right now, I'm pinning my hopes on him that he'll be able to help me. Hope the treatment works well for you. :-)
