I had the dreaded appointment with my GP today where I broke the news of the private blood test and asked for a referral to an endo...and it couldn't have gone much better. I'm gobsmacked! He said I was the one in the driving seat when it came to my health, and that he would help me in any way that he could if it would improve my quality of life.
He agreed that my TSH was too high in range, but confirmed that even if he asked for FT3 and FT4 to be tested the lab would refuse because my TSH was still 'in' range. He looked at the printout and said I would no doubt benefit from some levo but that he'd leave that to the endo to judge because she would need to say it was necessary before he could prescribe and properly monitor, as labs still wouldn't test T4 unless a specialist ordered them. He has added the results to my notes and made me an appointment for the week after the endo appointment.
So, now all I have to hope is that the endo is as sympathetic to this type of thyroid profile as he seemed to be. I'm not sure I could persuade him to let me try levo without the endo, as he is a very much 'by the books' type of GP.
