Well here it is 6 weeks and i cant eat barley anything i can eat mash taters , applesauce, cream of wheat. Once in awhile scrambled eggs but very little. When i eat what i can it feels like the food is at the back of my throat and i cant swallow to good. And i have to make myself throw up and then i feel like there is stuff still back there for hours sometimes a day and i cant eat anything at all. Had a scope done and they found nothin. Does or has anyone have this problem im tired of feeling this way and hungry. I do have a over active thyroid even thow im gaining weight and have gained 30 pounds in 2 months but the dr doesnt think its that says my thyroid isant that over active and not that big

Robyn, do you have your thyroid function test results and lab ref ranges? Get copies from your GP receptionist and repost if you don't have them.

If your doctor dismisses thyroid as the reason for your difficulty swallowing what is he doing about it?

If you can't identify why you gained 30lbs in 2 months and your doc doesn't care I vote get a new doc.

So you got everything checked and they couldn't see any obvious problems? Could be a sensory issue or motor issue. Do you think the problem might stem from the mechanics of swallowing not working correctly? If so that's a problem for a neurologist to look into. Swallowing is an amazingly complicated process and the slightest perturbation may give you problems.

Hi, sorry to hear of how you are feeling. I had the exact same issue last year - although I'm underactive (hashi). I had an endoscopy and nothing was found. My throat use to bleed with it too, especially in the middle of the night. Anyway when looking at my various results I noticed that my ferritin was only a couple of points above range, I started taking spatone and very soon my swallowing problems had disappeared. My GP said the was no link but when I googled it I did find that low ferritin can cause a dry throat, difficult to swallow, bleeding etc.

Yours may be something totally different but I thought I'd mention my experience just incase it helps.

Your references to applesauce and cream of wheat have me suspecting you're not from the UK? Anyway, another possibility for you. Years ago, back in my early 20s, I like you choked on something and for a long time afterwards felt like I'd got something stuck in my throat. My doctor took a look, couldn't see anything but told me it was likely to be acid reflux and I came away with a prescription for gaviscon. It did seem to help. I was enormously stressed at the time too, so I guess the two things were linked. It did eventually go away.

But another trip to the doctor sounds in order. There's clearly something not right.

Hi Robyn, The same thing happened to my son on 26 February, but my son and I are suffering since having Eltroxin changed. We have tried all three makes in this country now and they all have problems. When they intubated my son they found he was badly inflamed and had a stricture. He is on Omeprazole for two months and has to go back on 9 April to have a Gastroscopy to find out what is happening. I am also on Omeprazole for reflux too, so feel very strongly this is a medication problem. Wish you well. Janet.
