Depression is it thyroid b 12 or lack of support.??

Trying T3 only with help from Paul Robinson. and bodily felling a bit better but this last week I am so down. Is this my thyroid not being medicated correctly? is my B 12 at 634 too low or is it the lack of support?? My GP knows I am trialling this but it's "on your head be it." as it's over his head. Endo. doesn't know yet.

I just fell so isolated.

You see L don't even get support here.

That's a tad harsh, but I understand you feel poorly. How much t3 are you taking, how long have you been on it? I think your b12 is still too low, although I know a lot of people don't rate the serum blood test anyway. Are you supplementing it? Do you have any recent blood test results? Hope you feel better soon xx

Thanks Harry, sorry if it seemed harsh, just fell like giving up to be honest. I've just restarted B12 sups. in the hope they will help. Last bloods were January. TSH 0.078 T4 13 (11-24) T3 5.1 (4.0-6.8) Endo. said T3 was too high and T4 too low,so suggested I drop T3 and up T4.But I wanted to go the other way as I felt a bit better on T3. I've tried Paul Robinson without success. I don't want to go back to the endo. saying "you were right". Perhaps it's just a bip but feel tearful all the time.xx

Why does he think t3 is too low? It is, after all, the bit that actually does the work! I would say it needs to be right near the top of the range, and it isn't, is it? I don't think he is right, and you know your body best. Do you have enough t3 to be able to increase it a bit? Depression is horrible, whatever is causing it, so don't give up, you will get there x

Thanks Harry, Yes T3 was mid range so I have requested a change of endo. and hope the new one will be more understanding but I don't see him 'till about June. GP gave me three tubs of T3 and is happy to keep giving them to me.It is the doses that worry me Paul R. said to lower the early dose as it is raising my BP.Perhaps I just needed someone to understand.xxThank youXX

& your t4 will naturally be low if you are taking direct t3, won't it? I'm no great expert, but do understand how poorly you feel x

Feeling for you too Beaton, (((hugs))) You are not alone, I'm mighty proud of you to have had the courage to go the T3 route, If you felt better for it I would say your on the right track, just maybe needs fine tuning. Sorry I dont know much about this hope some one who knows a bit more can help. xxx

Big (((hugs))) back.xx

Do you have a result for folate? Are you taking any folate or a good B-complex alongside the B12?

Hi Hampster folate were 10.1 on last may bloods I haven't been taking any others B vits for I while but I have a new tub thet have 200ug folic acid.

in reply to beaton

200mcg isn't that much. The RDA is 400mcg I think. If you're taking high dose B12 you might want to consider more folate, at least 800mcg.

Also if your B12 is methyl you might want to consider methylfolate instead of folic acid. Experiment with it. Start low and build up.

Here is a link about how much to take, suggest you scroll down to the section "Don’t Want to Pay for a Lab Test? Rather experiment to see how much Methylfolate you need?":

It's fine thank you, feel better just by "talking" about it. Just listing all the sups so I don't forget or get it wrong. Thanks again.xxxx

I haven't followed Paul Robinson's protocol but took advice from Dr Lowe's website and take my T3 first thing in the morning in one dose. This is a link re T3 and go to date July 5, 2000.

Excerpt:-

Under normal conditions, T3-receptors aren’t saturated, and the use of sustained-release T3 isn’t likely to provide saturation. Saturation isn’t likely to occur with sustained-release T3 because the T3 enters cells only in small amounts over an extended time. As a result, it’s not likely that large enough amounts of T3 will reach the receptors at one time to saturate them. But plain T3 in single doses enters cells in larger amounts.
