Is 3 weeks enough time to stop taking adrenal support before a short synacthen test which resulted in my adrenals being healthy.

meanwhile my eyelids have become swollen and my eyes are sore. i feel dreadfull and so exhausted all of the time. I would prefer a 24 hour urine test for adrenals but wonder if the Hospital will allow it. I am so weak and need a walking stick to keep me up.

From what I understand the short synacthen test doesn't pick up on adrenal insufficiency until the adrenals are pretty much dead.

I've heard of people with adrenal fatigue stage 3 being pronounced healthy after the test.

Ask for the urine test instead.

Have you done a home saliva test?

Thankyou for your reply. I have done the glass of water test and it proved my adrenals were in a mess or do you mean i should send off for the lab test. I told the endo about the saliva test and he just doesn't believe in it. I wish we could go back to the good old days when symptoms mattered.

This is about the saliva test and don't know if it is any way similar but it will interest you anyway.

24-HOUR CORTISOL SALIVA TEST: An at-home test to evaluate your circadian cortisol levels at key times during a 24 hour period. Those with healthy adrenal function will have the following results: 8 am: at the literal top of the range 11 am-noon: in the upper quarter, and often about a quarter below the top 4-5 pm: mid-range 11 pm to midnight: at the very bottom. A DHEA above midrange is good, but 8 can mean the adrenals are compensating for a problem. You will need to be off any adrenal support supplement, any medication containing cortisol, any herbs that support adrenal function, or zinc or licorice root for at least two weeks prior to testing. Avoid food when spitting into vials. If you wear dentures, remove them to prevent denture adhesives from tainting the spit.

I so agree with you. Perhaps do the saliva test just for yourself, you might have a a mix of high and low cortisol.

And keep asking for the urine test. Best of luck.
