RAYNARDS AND OVERACTIVE THYROID?

I have developed Raynards which is quite severe at the moment. I had a Thyroid function test at the doctors and it came back saying i have an over active thyroid. This has left me a bit confused as it is a sign of underactive?

Can anyone help me understand what is going on? I am just waiting on repeat blood test results.

My suggestion is, that if you are currently going through blood tests, get them to add a few more on, as often you can have other autoimmune going on. Get them to test your for Lupus and also Hughes Syndrome, just to rule them out, as the blood tests will be indicative of whether or not you have any connective tissue disease going on.

I am not saying you have these, but with Raynards, and thyroid problems it pays to be suspicious, also Sjogrens can show up also.

It is a long shot, but these are cheap tests to do: hughes-syndrome.org/about-h...

It would be good to rule them out. MaryF x

Thank you for your reply. Do you know if these things are associated with overactive and raynards?

This is an excerpt:-

Raynaud's is a condition seen on its own, but also shows up as a "secondary" disease alongside other autoimmune diseases, including Hashimoto's disease, Graves' disease, lupus, Sjögren's Syndrome, scleroderma, and rheumatoid arthritis, among others.

Seems a bit strange. Raynauds can affect anyone. I have had some 20 years, long before I was diagnosed hypothyroid, so it may not be connected. I sympathise with you. We went to Portugal in the new year for three weeks and there were still a few cloudy days where I had to wear thick gloves. Anyone who suffers with it will understand. Hope someone can be of help. Take care

Hi, just to confirm reynauds need not necessarily have any connection with your thyroid problems. It is a condition in its own right, not just a symptom of thyroid diease.although I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid last year I have had reynauds all my life (49 years) and several of my nieces also were born with it so often it is genetic. Hope that helps.
