Iv`e been taking glucosamine sulphate for about a month to try & get rid of tendonitis in my wrists & shoulders, & I read yesterday that this type of supplement causes osteoporosis. Does anyone on this site know if this is true?

Is glucosamine safe?
Glucosamine is used to aid bones, and I think it is I used as a treatmentmfor osteo, not cause it
Where did you read this info.
Hi It used to be considered so good that many docs recommended it. Then draw backs were found and it is no longer recommended.I had taken them for years for OA and to help my osteoporosis. I found no difference when I stopped!
Best wishes,
Jackie
Never heard of it being bad for you but it has been 20 years since I have taken it - our rowing team physio reccomended it for us, to help keep the shoulders active - aomthing to do with joints is all I can remember.
I read it on an obscure internet site, I can`t remember which one.
It's certainly not a cause of osteoporosis, although NICE doesn't believe it helps it either which is why you won't get it on the NHS... There are a couple of sites that have some useful information... patient.co.uk/doctor/glucos... and arthritisresearchuk.org/art...
