So yesterday I went back, saw a different doctor, who said my blood tests had showed i little increase in something, I know something was 5.8 from the nurse, but this doc said she wouldn't have put me thyroxine, would have left me for another 6 weeks took my blood again and see what the outcome was, although I told her i was feeling better, my feet were less swollen, my lips seemed normal and i could taste again, she said this wasn't my thyroid, and my legs were a bit less heavy, I know the road she is going down I think, as I am overweight always have been, since a child, even felt a bit of that weight was coming off with taking thyroxine, so I'm left for six weeks, have a blood test taken in 4 weeks then a review, forgot to say another blood test said no antibodies in it, don't really understand as new to this, anyone help, I felt so elated two weeks ago, something was being done, now so down as it

's just the same old lose weight.

Can you have the blood test then go back and see the first Doctor you saw who gave you the thyroxine? And say how you'd noticed some improvements with the thyroxine and would like to continue with it again? Alternatively you could go back and see them now without stopping the thyroxine and pretend you never saw this other doctor? Food for thought :-)

thank you it is hard to find a doctor thhat will listen.

If you find a good doctor it's best to stick with them if you can - they are few and far between. Good luck :-)

Of course you feel down. You get your hopes up and then dashed; so ridiculous. This is so typical of hypothyroidism. My ankles were my first sign and then I noticed my legs were more shapely which I didn't mind but it was definitely different. I would seek another opinion immediately. If she insists you need to become more ill when you have seen results on thyroxine, then you have to take a stand for yourself.

If your TSH went "up" as you think. That is not good. We try to lower our TSH to around 1.00. It is not good to start the hormone and then stop. In the meantime you could try to increase your levels of vitamin d by taking D3, B12, magnesium and check iron and folate levels. Keep posting for advice.

That is my arguement exactly, it isn't good to stop. Thank you will keep you posted

Hiya. When you say no antibodies, do you mean there was no test for antibodies, or do you mean the test was negative?

I will say, as will others here, that it would be very helpful to have your actual results. Have you asked for a printout? It will be good to chart your progress if you have the actual figures.

You may feel a bit wobbly on such a low dose - sometimes it serves only to shut down your thyroid production and can make you feel worse rather than better - so it would be good to know all your bloods so you can argue in favour of the ideal dose as opposed to a nominal tiny dose.

My swollen legs (and lots of other parts besides!) were uncomfortable and irritating, and when I began taking t3 the swelling went right down and stayed down. It's amazing how effective it can be to get a bit of water weight off - when you're not dragging your stiff and heavy legs about it's a joy.

thank you, will keep you posted.

I have had half of my thyroid removed and I was told blood tests in 6 weeks. Routine bloods I have always been told 6 weeks by the Endos as well.

I too have recently been put on to 25mg of levothyroxine. My surgery have 4 gp's so you never see the same one twice. First gp said my tsh was 5.8 but wait 6 weeks before being given meds. A week passed and I was even worse than before, I could barely scrape myself out of bed. I went back...it was another gp. She gave me the levothyroxine and said it would be detrimental to my health to continue to treat the levels and not the patients symptoms. My tsh level was now 6.3. I went back again with my original complaint which was feeling like my throat is swollen and suffocating me, the 3rd gp said I should never have been given thyroxine meds and should have been made to wait. I am so confused too. I had half my thyroid removed last year due to a benign nodule. No doctor has ever checked my bloods in the year since. I have now been referred back to ENT. 6 weeks and still no appointment letter. My throat is horrible. Sometimes I struggle to swallow. Doctor said it may be the start of a goiter! Ive been so scared and just keep thinking im going to get told the worst news ever. Having already went through surgery and waiting 3 weeks to hear wether the nodule was cancer or benign (they had lost my files in the system) thankfully benign. I now feel like im back on this horrible roller coaster. I hope you get the answers you need and get sorted soon. I called the gp for my latest results. ..reception said they are now within normal range. Good luck x

This is my constant complaint. They don't care how you feel, just what your TSh score is. I have been reading aBOUT a doctor who lists the symptoms of thyroid, suggests there are more accurate tests. I went in two months ago with headaches, swollen tongue, weight gain, tiredness. He announced it must be sleep apnea and tried to schedule a sleep study. lMy husband has sleep apnea and my symptoms were not sleep apnea. I finally bought my own thyroid meds from overseas and can now adjust my dosage based on how I feel, not how he does.
