I am 28 and had a baby on August. I had inconclusive FNA results in August last year and a total thyroidectomy reccommended. I then moved so had to be rereferred. Now I've found out that my surgeon won't be available until after mid-April. Am I at risk of cancer?

Inconclusive test results and risk of cancer...
Hi, I think you need to push to get this seen to now. There is a medical law that came in to the uk that says anyone who is being looked at and is being tested for any cancer ,has the right to appointments and testing in 2 weeks. The FNA is quite often inconclusive, it was for me also. Best wishes,
Thanks for replying. My issue is that my surgeon is a professor and is meant to be really good so I can wait for him or have another surgeon sooner. I'm just scared if I wait, I'll increase my risk of cancer :-S
Hi, did you have an ultra sound scan first, and did they tell you anything about the cyst/nodule that they did the FNA on?
I had an ultrasound guided FNA and I was told there were lots of cysts and I think it was 3 large hard nodules across both lobes (one is quite far down). I have felt a nodule pressing on my windpipe when I lie down for a while but now I can feel it all the time and it tickles causing me to cough. My bloods came back normal and no anti-bodies.
Hi.... My fna came back negative also but when I had my tt it was found I had cancer, I had to have two ops one one the left and then one month later on the right (23 dec) .... I know how important it is to have a good surgeon but I would be pushing for a quicker appointment..... Good luck
Gosh the exact same thing happened with me, did you have RAI? Hope you are well.
Hi... Not had my RDI yet, I'm waiting for my appointment to Christies in Manchester... Have you had yours? If so how was it?
Hi, yes I had 4 days in the lead room at st James Leeds. It was ok, but very lonely.
Hi there! I agree with the other comments, time can be hugely important here. I was in the exact position & From what I was told 'all surgeons specializing in thyroidectomy do exactly the same thing, there is no bad or good, they operate & check for other signs inside ie Lyph nodes etc take out the thyroid & send it off to be tested"...you don't need a professor for the surgery, you may really need him after to determine treatment depending on pathology reports after surgery....some delays can't be helped but the biggest problem with waiting is the risk of spread ie to the lymphatic system & blood stream if in fact it is cancer. My surgery was delayed unfortunately by some medical errors and as my doctor put it when he said, 'I'm really sorry were just a little bit too late, it has spread". That gap in time more than likely made the difference between 'having had cancer' & 'living with metastic cancer'. Now it's spread it's a totally different ball park...I dont want to panic you, but my advice - get it out while its still in your thyroid. Best of Luck & Love x
My FNA was inconclusive and PT was done. The nodule had grown considerably in 5 months from initial ultrasound to surgery. Biopsy was positive for Stage II Hurthle cell carcinoma. Completion followed 3 months later and this lobe was negative.
I suggest surgery sooner rather than later, too.
Hi everyone,
Sorry to hear that some of your situations lead to cancer-hopefully you've helped save me from it through this thread as I was naive to the potential severity of my situation. I pushed the hospital and now have my surgery on 6th march which is better than mid-April. Will post on here once I've had the results back but honestly can't thank you all enough for sharing your experiences and helping me with your knowledge.
