I am taking heart meds is this why my GP will not prescribe thyroxin. I am at my wits end.Hair falling out, weight gain, dry itchy skin, tiredness, no energy, I`m sure my thyroid is not working properly. I`ve been feeling like this for a couple of years, have gone from a size 14 to a size 22 even thoiugh I eat a lot less than I used to do and I am as active as I can be but by 1pm I feel like I just want to sleep. Please can anyone read my blood results and tell me if I would probably feel better by taking a small dose of thyroid meds?

TSH 3.3 (035-4.94)

FT4 16.0 (9.0- 19.1)

FT3 4.63(3.6- 6.5)

vit B12 735 (187.0- 883.0)

Folate 11.0 (1.8-18.3)

Ferritin 215.9 (10.0-204.0)

Antibody 5KU/L (5.6)

Vit D2and D3 level 47nMol/L

MyGp has prescribed a three month 500mcg a day Vit D3 supplement which I have finished today but don`t feel any better. I have an appointment to see him on the 2nd Jan and don`t know of any way of trying to make him understand how awful I feel, I feel so depressed. Please can anyone give me advise.

Hi ruthalem

I am sorry you have heart as well as thyroid gland problems. I think your GP should have referred you to an endocrinologist.

The lack of thyroid gland hormones can affect your heart too. So, I am not medically qualified, I think it is important you be seen my someone as soon as possible.

My heart began playing up due to undiagnosed hypo - so it was the second intimation, the first being a hoarse voice.

Hi I have end stage cardiac disease and lots more. Thyroid must be right ,if either or over it effects the heart. To be honest your results for thyroid are perfect, except the FT3 may be a little low. However, you should not take any beta Blocker before a thyroid test, take after wards a little later. That effect the blood test but not the thyroid itself..The vit D is low ,normally needs to be on for life, unless corrected calcium goes above range, An electrolyte so very important. Test before vit D and after 3 - 4 months on it, test both.Your ferritin is a little high too. Most of the drugs you mention are not cardiac, unless on and end stage drug eg Amioderone, which is known to lower thyroid this does not matter. Also the blood results are not significant for you. Endo covers lots of things ,not just thyroid. be sure to find a really good one, then ask for a referral With any heart problems, any thing relevant should be under an Endo, ie any thing hormone related and electrolytes, vit D etc..Make sure you have a had a Diabetes test, autoimmune and hormonal more or less the same initial symptoms as thyroid. Also of course, covered by a general Endo.

I hope that helps, if you feel wrong, something is wrong, persue it .

Best wishes,

Jackie

Hi Jackie, Thanks for comments, I know little of what my thyroid readings should be, I just know that I really don`t feel well and with all that is happening such as hair loss, tiredness and all the other symptoms I have mentioned, the only thing that seems to fit is thyroid problems. My doctor has given me a free pass to a gym but I honestly don`t think I have the energy to do a work out and I get really out of breath just walking normally, I walk about a hundred yards and have to rest to get my breath. I have an appointment to see my GP tomorrow morning and don`t know how to try and make him understand how awful I am feeling. My husband is insisting that he attends this appointment with me and is threatening to insist that my GP refers me to an endocrinologist, I don`t like confrontation and am worried about my husband upsetting my GP but do feel that I need someone to speak up for me as he doesn`t seem to take any notice of what I am saying to him or, is just not listening. Thankyou again for your comments.

Hi Make sure you have the U`s and E`s tested frequently, ,kidney function, Furosemide strongly effects Potassium and sodium. Both must be in range, Potassium ideally 4, middle, as both electrolytes This is all Endo. Make sure you see a good one, pick then ask for a referral. Careful research. Then if not happy change and ask for a new referral.Like everyone good and bad.Endo, if good should do all the relevant autoimmune and hormonal tests. An Endo covers so much, especially diuretics and electrolytes.

A lot of us find we have to be firm with some doctors, or suffer as a consequence, Thyroid and related issues are complicated. I am surprised the Cardio has not insisted you see an Endo..

If I can help send me a PM. click on my name , private message. Is there a different GP in the practice, listening is vital. Often GP`s fob us off, mental illness, too fat, food etc.Autoimmune, hormonal conditions are very complicated.

It is also essential to drink plenty, water best with diuretics , can cause ,kidney problems, U and E`s regualarly will show that.

Once again Jackie thank you, I may seem a bit dim asking this question but what are U and E`s

If you type "U and E" into any good search engine you will get at least hundreds of (mostly relevant) links.

Here are links first to "U" and second to "E":

Hi No problem with questions. U`s and E`s are kidney function, sorry I thought you would know them. Urea and Electolytes, always known medically as U`s and Es. They include the most important electrolytes, potassium , sodium ( salt), also eGFR most important kidney figure, not a range. Above 60 fine . below 50 not so good, below 30 as mine is , acute renal failure.e GFR only done if weight put on the blood form, Creatinine and urea, can be a bit out.Sometimes other things done but they are the usual ones.

Any think else do get back to me.

Thanks to every one for your help. I have seen my GP today and he is referring me to an endocrinologist and I didn`t even have to ask , he suggested it himself. Hopefully I will get myself sorted and start living again. Once again thanks every one.

That is good news. I'm going to try to see my Dr tomorrow, I live in Scotland and today is a holiday, so there will be a high demand tomorrow. The only specialist I haven't seen is an endo, yet other consultants think my health problems are connected to my thyroid! I'm in bed ill yet again and its only 3 weeks since I was at the docs. Hope all goes really well with your appointment and you get answers and better health. Xx

Good. I always find it helpful, especially if going for several things to make a list as a prompt for myself. Also any recent consultant letters, they like to see.

Best wishes,

Jackie
