I am quite worried. My TFH is 2.45 (I have been taking levothyroxine 50mg - it was 5.8). Nxt test Free T4 = 14.8 and Serum T3 = 4.6 - help?
Hi
Why are you worried? What symptoms are you having, if any?
Have you got the reference ranges for these tests please?
This information will help people to better offer informed support.

Hi Guessing at the ranges, these are probably Ok, If you think your thyroid is not right, what is the range for the FT3. I need mine near the top of range Also possible you have not been on treatment for long enough, it takes a while to improve, hypo symptoms can be the same as Hyper, so be sure not to be overdosed, only the bloods tell you that. The other tests too are important but the most important is vit D, hormonal,.If low a corrected calcium test too
Best wishes,
Jackie.
Thanks for your reply; My GP did a "Serum T3?" but not a Free T3 (I did ask and she said that The Free T4 is more important!) I now know otherewise! I have vit D tablets every month...Never had a "hormonal" test or calcium..test... What exactly is the "hormonal" test?. I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid 3 weeks ago (taking 50mg Levothyroxin), but, I suffer from Excema which has become progressivly worse since taking these tabs... is there a correlation here? I have this 'gut' feeling that all is not well....I am still so very, very tired and exhausted - more so after some small activity - like going up stairs,. It takes me ages in the morning to come around it if at all! -). I am depressed, foggy head, limited concentration and memory, - all is not good. However, this site has really opened my eyes!! It is so helpful... I do feel very vulnerable at the moment. Can anyone help more? Many thanks and kind regards, Gill
Hi My Endo says that the T3 test is totally useless, it must be Free T3. I only know because the lab did the wrong one by mistake. When I phoned, as a private Lab they redid it.You might neeed to use Blue Horizon on line, if you do quote TUK 10 for a discount. Finger prick test fine, if venous do not go through a hospital, expensive. Vit D is not really a vit, misnamed but a hormone. It needs testing before taking any, and a separate corrected calcium done before taking the D,normally for life, daily or injections, unless corrected calcium goes above range, then it must be stopped. Both tests need doing together always.Stairs ar e often low vit D, espeically if you have to crawl!
All blood tests essential to ask for a print out from receptionist and must contain the ranges or useless. All labs vary for most tests but with the ranges, that is fine.
Eczema often worse on the wrong /insufficient meds for thyroid.
You sound vastly under treated. T4 should be in top third of range and Free T3 bear the top. often, depending on tests, T3 needed with t4( levo).
Hormonal tests, basic ones, there are lots, the thyroid tests, as mentioned. if a 40 or more, then hormone tests to see if menapausal or pre etc, B112+ foliates, needs to be high in range. diabetes, these 2 are hormonal and autoimmune and go with tnyroid. You also need an iron/feritin test, needs to be clearly in range.
I hope this helps.
Get back to me if not clear.
Jackie
Thank you so much Jackie for your help. What an earth are our G Ps doing? Or rather NOT doing? I feel so very poorly at the moment; Your comments regarding the Vit D and calcium is very enlightening. I will certainly follow up your excellent knowledge and advice.
Thank you again Gill
When were you diagnosed with hypothyroidism. What symptoms are you still having.
