T3 - Doc was ready to prescribe but he says it isn't readily available on the NHS and has had to contact the Prescription team.

Is there anything i can do to help this? GP said he has had to consult the Prescription team and T3 isn't appearing on any of his normal paperwork/forms so can't do it :(. I was hopeful yesterday, but not so much now.

Some doctors fail to realise that T3 is called Liothyronine when prepared as a medicine and that is what they need to look up.

It is a fully licensed medicine which can be prescribed by any doctor. However, they might be unwilling to do so because of cost, local policies, etc.

This happened to me as a lot of surgeries remove it from their system stoping docs from prescribing without confirmation as my doc said its so expensive and not conventional but told me to fight for it as ridiculous as it sounds as it was clear it would help me- so I fought had meeting with practice manager went with research and now I have it on repeat and have done for nearly 2 years with no problems so don't give up! They may like mine ask for you to be supervised under an endo but its worth every bit if as like me makes you feel better. Hope that helps!

Yes my endo recommended it. I have also tested positive for the gene from both my father and my mother so this in theory should be a strong case!

My sons' GP just prescribed it for him without a word.

My GP had to write to the Endo at the hospital for permission to prescribe it. We got it for a trial of 6 months. It came with a letter saying many people go on the internet and imagine a problem when there is none. However some people do have a problem with converting so they would allow it for a trial period. What theydon't tell you though is that you can't just expect to be well. I learnt through this site that sometimes you can feel just as bad on it unless certain procedures are put into place. The details are on a blog from Paul Robinson who wrote a book on this subject of T3. Maybe you already know of this.

In this case, I suggest it should have been a question. As it is, there are two separate threads of responses. People might well respond on one not realising they are simply repeating what has already been said on the other.

Right, having chased and chased and chased this and nobody getting back to me, including multiple calls to the Practice Manager who has never returned my calls nor acknowledged my complaints, I asked the duty doctor today what was going on as we are several weeks down the line and I have had no updates. She tells me that a GP has written to Addenbrookes. Can I upload here the letter they have written as I am really confused ?!? Thanks...
