I am an idiot! I thought it might only affect T4 which my doc doesn't really use.

Got to the docs and they'd cancelled my appointment anyway!

Do you mean to say the GP cancelled your appointment due to you taking the Levo before the blood test or did they just cancel it anyway?

I only ask as I'm under the impression that if I took my Levo *after* the blood test and then told my GP they would get funny about it since I've been told to take them all the time regardless of a blood test to check the TSH.

Thanks

Taking thyroid gland medication before a blood test can skew your results and may result in a decrease by the GP who believes that we should be kept within a certain TSH range. It is also wise to have the test as early as possible.

It was sensible to cancel the blood test and make a new one. You don't have to give a reason as they probably do not think it makes a difference, when it does.

Hi Jo,

They cancelled it anyway. When I started on Levo in March I was advised by knowledgable types on here not to take it beforehand so I never have, but maybe the important thing is to be consistent so you can monitor your levels accurately. I did think it was more important for t3/t4 than tsh but I'm not sure on that!
