Can anyone recommend a good pill cutter?

I've bought two so far - one from Boots and one from Holland & Barrett. More often than not I end up with either crushed tablets or poorly divided tablets. Some more reliable suggestions would be gratefully received.

I have bought several pill cutters and all are useless. My pharmacist told me it is not good practice anyway, as all of the potent part may be in only one part, owing to poor mixing. Of course we have no choice but to cut and in the end I use a tiny sharp knife and manage better than with a pill cutter but it will never be perfect.

I bought a little brilliant one from superdrug and it cuts quite a few sizes of pills (their pharmacists uses one too). It's called Pillmate Pillcutter and I think it was around £2.30.

I am off to buy one if you think it is really that good. Another for my collection. Thank you.

I think that's the one I have it's really good and I've had it at least 9years!

....the secret with mine is to give it a sharp smack downwards - when I am being gentle it crumbles....then I dampen my fingertip and mop up the crumbs :-)

I used to use a (clean and kept specifically for the purpose) stanley knife blade. I always end up with one whole half and one bitty lot, but I keep the whole half and take the bits at the time.

However i now tend to buy different strengths, it costs more than cutting but i feel better for getting exact amounts, like Hennerton says you could take half a pill and there be nothing except fillers in it or you could take half and get a full dose :/

I bought one on Amazon and it works just fine - read the reviews first and you can work out what's likely to be best for you.

I do the same as Hennerton, and use a small sharp knife with good success. I put a teatowel on the work surface first and then place the pill on this, then give the knife edge a firm bang and it usually works this way...good luck.

Buy a packet of old fashioned razor blades from the pharmacy. The blade is so thin that there is virtually no damage done to the pills. In good light, you get reasonable accuracy.

I use a edged razor blade no trouble x

If the pill cutters aren't good use your thumb nails. It's what I do and the pills never crumble.
