Can anyone recommend a good non toxic shampoo?
I seem to have tried them all, dr bronners, accure, conscious skincare and non seem to work, can anyone recommend a good one?
Thanks for your help!
Have you looked at the Faith in Nature range faithinnature.co.uk/departm...
Free from Parabens and SLS, use natural fragrances, essential oils, etc.
I've just started using them.
I will have a look, thank you!
I expect shampoo to get my hair clean. What are you expecting from a shampoo?
Obviously to get my hair clean, and non toxic as per my question
Recently read how a chap had stopped using shampoo saying it was not natural and after a couple of weeks had less grease and dandruff. Am trying it out. No plastics and gunge down the drain
my dad is currently doing this and it doesn't even look like it needs washing at all, i have very long hair so am reluctant to go through the transition period!
Korres is a good range. It can be found online , in Waitrose, T K Maxx. There’s always a deal on it somewhere.
I have hair extensions and shouldn’t use things with parabens, sulphates etc so I’ve tried loads. The ones with chemicals are most effective at cleaning hair from my experience.
I use only products that have not been tested on animals. I assume that the ingredients are not toxic as they would not put humans through the toxic testing that they inflict on animals, but I'm perhaps making a wrong assumption here. I use Superdrugs's own brand products or M&S.
I have used many organic shampoos and they never cleaned my hair properly and skin on my face was getting clogged. The only one organic one which was good was Davines but it is a bit pricey. I now use Aveeno which isn’t particularly toxic and washes my hair well.
Weleda make great non-toxic shampoos.
I'm not sure what non-toxic really entails as even plants can be toxic but I use Rejuvenating Geranium shampoo from nealsyardremedies.com. It says, no mineral oils, no synthetic fragrances or colours, non GM, no parabens, no silicones. 85% organic. I really have no idea, it just sounded good and works for me.
There are a few online companies who make shampoo bars that are organic and classed as green. I have used Lush solid shampoo bars in the past but after a while my scalp started to itch. I discovered they contain products that can be classed as toxic , Sodium Laurel sulphate being the main one.
I can't attach links but Soap Nuts, Natural Soap Company and Wild Sage are a few of the UK based line providers, most bars are about £4 but last longer than bottled shampoos.
A lot of people seem to think that Lush products are ‘green’ and do not contain any nasties; looking at the ingredients in a lot of their products this is not the case, SLS being an example. I make my own soaps, very easy, and I make one specifically for my husband’s hair which contains among other things, green tea, soap nuts extract, rosemary and peppermint essential oils. It works for him but not for me as I dye my hair. When we travel we take one bar of soap. There are many bar shampoos, what the soap making community call ‘no-poo’, available. Do check the ingredients carefully. A friend once gave me some commercial soaps (why?) and there were about two known carcinogens and six known allergens in the soap.
There’s a great app called Think dirty that rates how dirty your products are. It is a US based app so unfortunately doesn’t include all UK products. It also list plenty of products that others have recommended.
I, like SeasideSusie use Faith in Nature shampoo from my local herbarium. Beautiful scented products & free from lots of nasties.
Green People works for me. I developed a sore itchy patch On my head exactly where I put the shampoo on so tried organic and it definitely was the right thing to do. No more sore bits and beautiful shiny hair. It's expensive but very concentrated so you only use a little.
I use Faith in Nature but the brave botanicals range makes my scalp itch and brings me out in a rash. The ordinary ones seem fine.
Thank you all for your help! I will look into all of those! x
