Have you had a print-out of your recent blood test results, if not get one and post them complete with the ranges on a new question for comments.
Usually, if your TSH within the 'normal range' the labs wont do T3. You can have T3 and T4 done privately but first, post your most recent thyroid gland blood tests for comments.
Hi This is getting common with lots of NHS Labs, costs! I used to have no problems. Now even though GP knows it is essential for me, the FT3, I have to go to Blue Horizon, every one happy with this as a well known lab, all very simple.Their main site has finger prick or venous blood tests, actually much more general tests too than NHS. Both fine f cost £60 - £70 for the 3, if you quote TUK 10 for a discount. They also will do an antibodies with them for just a little more. Finger prick easy but I have sticky blood so my difficult GP will fill the phial for the venous test along with other bloods being done by her Do not go through the site and a private hospital, very expensive like that. They send you everything, after paying, then analyse the blood very quickly when returned.Best have the TSH, T4 and Free T3 done together.

I had the same problem at my GPs. Eventually I went private to be told my TSH is normal but T3 and T4 is not which indicated a damaged pituitary gland and possibly a problem with my cortisol levels too. Waiting to see if I need a synacthen test or a test for cushings. Had a bad asthma attack sudden onset needed paramedic intervention - but not been well afterwards. Now waiting to see consultant again. Gp's order all thyroid tests but it seems that the path lab people seem to make a judgement call based on the TSH alone - which shouldn't happen really. A GP Should be able to order these tests and get them done without being blocked by the path lab people. It shouldn't be up to the path lab to do or not do a test. If it's been requested they must do it !! I'm angry because if the GP had these tests done before I may well not be in the poorly state I'm in now !!
