Levothyroxine is T4.

I have not read the full study, but I do wonder if other contributing factors were taken fully into consideration.

I would also like to draw your attention to the comment from Janie at the bottom of the page which may help to allay your fears a little... :(

ADDENDUM FROM JANIE: Please note that this study doesn’t say that every single T4 user is going to get lung cancer. My mother was on Synthroid her entire life, and though she had many miserable symptoms from it being a poor treatment for her, she never got lung cancer. It just seems to say that the researchers noted increased oxidative stress with T4 use, and they saw a correlation between that and lung cancer in some. Read the entire study information here and decide for yourself.

More than that, hypothyroidism itself causes the very issue that is put forward as to why T4-only might have this effect. Note "might".

The report is something to consider and bare in mind.

My neighbour was diagnosed with thyroid cancer 32 years ago and her thyroid gland and lymph nodes were removed. She is now 77 years old and battling lung cancer. I don't know what medications she is on but she's battling this cancer and other cancers for many years.

I too have had the right lobe of my thyroid removed due to cancer in February and the research that I've read indicates that there is an increased risk of getting lung cancer, bone cancer and brain tumours depending on which cancer is present. So, for me this research is significant because when I see my endocrinologist I can refer to it and perhaps get some T3 therapy. I've been on Levothyroxine since my cancer was removed and I developed hypothyroidism but it doesn't seem to be working. This report might just convince my endocrinologist to give me T3, something I've been asking to trial since I met him in July.

Thanks for posting this Mandy72.
