I am now on 250mg of Levothyroxine I find this an extremely high dose?
Dosage: I am now on 250mg of Levothyroxine I find... - Thyroid UK
Dosage
It is higher than many take - but it is not astronomic by a long way.
I have before now quoted an extreme case where a patient was taking 3,000 micrograms a day for something like three years.
It is always worth considering the obvious issues like whether you are taking it well away from food, drink (other than water), supplements and other medicines? Are you taking any other medicines? Do you have any other illnesses? Are you iron-deficient? Do you have low vitamin D? Or B12? What time of day?

Hi I'm a nearby i was reading above i have had 3blood transfusions in last two years second one needed 5 units in now been told my body is not absorbing iron could this be due to interactive thyroid
Susan1553,
I really am no expert on iron - have never had a problem myself.
I will point out that in order to absorb iron from many sources sufficient stomach acidity is essential. However, in people with inadequate thyroid hormone, low stomach acidity is all too common.
I always suggest trying haem (heme) and/or ferritin supplements because they are absorbed by different pathways. Liver is also worth eating.
I really do recommend you put up a new post rather than adding to a four-year-old one - which will likely be missed by many members.
I've been on the high to mid 200s for years now.
Is yours a GP dose or an Endo dose? From experience the 2 are very different (given that most Endos know what they are talking about and most GPs do not!!)
I'm on 250 and just about to go up again! My mum has been on 350 for years. Welcome to the big numbers club
My daughter is now on 1,000 mcg Thyroxin and 60 mcg of T3 a day. Next week she will be asking her Endo to refer her to another hospital as she is getting worse not better. This has been going on for 5yrs now and no sign of improvement and the only test he has ever done is basic blood tests.
