I started taking NDT 1grain 2 weeks ago, didnt fell at my best . Headaches, like having a cold , needing to rest . I then increase to 1 1/2 grains . Still having headaches etc... Do you know how long it takes for the NDT results ?! And is it normal to be ok with a dosage and suddenly fell not ok with the same dosage ?

I here people say that it is easy find the right dosage , but I am a bit worried about that.

Thank you in advance for any help.

That's normal yes - the feeling better, then not so much. It's because your body is welcoming the extra help - then realises it still needs more. When you get towards the dose that's right for you it will stop happening. Don't be tempted to raise too fast - stick at each half grain increase for a minimum of two weeks - and when you get to 2 grains, stay there for 4-6 weeks and then get some private bloods done. Depending on what they say, you may need to go a bit higher - but we'll advise on that when you have some more results.

Keep in mind that it's helpful to know whether you're B12, ferritin or Vit D deficient, as all of those impact on thyroid health and general well-being.

Susi, how much Levothyroxine were you taking before you switched to NDT? BTW the transition isn't always easy and it takes time to find your optimal dose.

Clutter , I never took Levo , only started NDT 2 1/2 weeks ago.

Susi, you've gone in at too high a dose and increased too quickly. It's advised to start at half a grain and increase in half grain increments every fortnight. When you're close to your optimal level increments should be in quarter grain adjustments to avoid overshooting and missing your sweet spot. Your TSH 3.37 a couple of months ago suggests to me that 1 grain may be sufficient. Cut back to 1 grain for 6 weeks and have a thyroid test before increasing further.

Yes Clutter, I will cut back, but what I still dont understand is that I hear that when one starts not feeling well with the dosage it is time to increase a bit, and that is happening to me. Do you mean I should still keep 1grain for 6 weeks anyway? Thank you

Susi, I do. The link I posted earlier demonstrates why you need to allow time for your body to absorb and metabolise the hormone. You don't give a dehydrated person a bucket of water to drink, you allow them small sips, otherwise they become sick.

I grain is the equivalent of 75-100mcg Levothyroxine. Most people with TSH >5 and <10 are started on 50mcg and build up to 75mcg after 6-8 weeks.
