I have been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. I still have lots of symptoms even though I take 50 mg of thyroxine a day. Can I any take any supplements on top of this that might help?

Can I take supplements if taking thyroxine
Caroline, if you have been on that dose for two months or longer, you should ask for an increase of thyroxine, unless there is good reason not to. Unless you are 80 years old or something, you should probably be on more than 50 mcg. Average is 100 or 125 mcg. and maybe more. You absolutely can take supplements. Even without tests, I take D3 and B12, B vitamins and magnesium. After testing folate, ferritin and iron might also be low but should find out first.
Don't take calcium or iron with Levo- closer than 4 hours. They affect absorption.
Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it
If you haven't had a Vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate ask for these to be tested too. The first two in particular are usually deficient. 50mcg levo is only a starting dose.
Have your blood test at the earliest a.m. and don't take meds till afterwards.
Supplements can be taken four hours after levo. Levothyroxine should be taken on an empty stomach with a glass of water.
