Hi, after finding a lump about 4cm round in my neck 10 days ago and seen my gp ( he said the lump is where my thyroid is) Dr said ill get scan in about 2 weeks, im obviously worried it could be something bad.
ive now had the blood test for the function of my thyroid last week, they said if there was anything wrong they would phone me by tuseday (today). ive not had a call so im presuming thyroid is ok !! which as worried me more, if theres nothing wrong with my thyroid .... what is this large lump??
Hopefully someone here can give me some answers Regards Dee.
Just to add ive lost a stone in 2 months, my heart rate always seams fast, ive always been naturally anxious, my periods are always late, ive been needing a poo everyday for the last few months before i would go every few days! im tired and feel pretty unwell if i dont eat enough through out the day.. i thought these were signs of over active thyroid?!

DeeChe, It does sound a bit like overactive - but best not to jump the gun. When you get the results, ask for the actual figures and the ranges, that will help you to get more constructive comments if you put them on here. I hope you get on OK with the scan.
I've been through the mill myself with overactive and then hypo so I know it is very stressful just waiting.
Hi Dee , I can only talk from my own experience. When I was 20 I had a lump size of an egg on my right thyroid, it was removed successfully ( well the whole thyroid was removed) I happily plodded on another 30 years with one thyroid, never needing any medication for it, had 3 lovely daughters , always active and never thought about the thyroid till I noticed the left side started strangling me and there I was again in ultrasound scans , needle tests and results that I had 7 lumps on my left and biggest was 3cm. The left was removed 24/6 and now I am without thyroid glands at all.
It doesn't actually mean yours are over/low active necessarily even if you have lump there you can be all right and even if you had one left this would compensate the missing one.
Best to get bloods done and in my opinion get rid of the lumpy one if you can
HI, I HAD A LUMP IN MY NECK AND THEN HAD A SCAN THEN HAD TO HAVE A BIOPSY WHICH WAS APPARENTLY WORRYING, I HAD A PARTIAL THYROIDECTOMY 2 WEEKS AGO AND THE SURGEON SAID THE LUMP DOSE LOOK SUSPICIOUS SO I AM NOW WAITING FOR THE RESULTS TO SEE IF IT IS CANCEROUS, IF IT IS I WILL HAVE TO HAVE THE OTHER SIDE TAKEN OUT.
I have a lump in myneck from end of collar bone to below jaw.said this to dr and he felt sides of my neck and said glands were fine.-but thyroid s are in front of neck and lower down????since learnt that CTS(which he said I had)is symptom of thyroid as is tightening of neck -feeling being strangled, choking and coughing and hoarseness????
It may not be a tumour as you think - I went to my doctor when I was 15 as my neck had swollen up around my thyroid, and there was concern that this could be the result of a lump or tumour. I went for ultrasounds and there was no tumour to be found. In the end, my thyroid had swollen up because it was underactive - the TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) was absolutely flogging it to produce more thyroxine, and it wasn't coping, so swelled up!
Basically the moral of the story is that this could just be your body's way of telling you that there's something wrong with your thyroid - don't panic just yet! Your symptoms certainly sound overactive to me. Best of luck with all the tests and I hope you get good news and feel better soon x
