I just can't believe how high your TSH was - I didn't even know it could go that high. You must have felt absolutely dreadful.

Did 75 mcg levo a day bring it down or were you on something else too?

I've seen TSH reported as high as 200-300 but I think that must be rare -as well as serious. I can't remember if the reason was given, off hand.

You were quite ill, at 75.

NB: Your B12 seems low, too !

Your Dr may be taking things carefully- but you don't seem to be optimal yet.

thanks for that tegz, X

Re low B12 and folate, you might want to get advice from the following 2 websites:

b12d.org/

pernicious-anaemia-society....

You could ask your doctor to refer you to St Thomas' for the Active B12 / MMA / Homocysteine tests:

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Some info on the tests, to discuss with your doctor:

active-b12.com/What-Is-Acti...

biolab.co.uk/docs/vitaminB1...

He may not have heard of the test, but studies show only a small percentage of the B12 in our blood is in an active usable form (something like 10%-30%, maybe lower in thyroid sufferers).

The serum B12 test (which you have had) can give rise to false positives and false negatives. There is also a warning issued about this test, stating that treatment should be instigated if symptoms point to deficiency, and other tests should be carried out:

ukneqas-haematinics.org.uk/...

The problem is you are hypothyroid, and your doctor will gladly put all your symptoms down to that. These things are never that simple however, we usually have multiple things going on that need to be treated correctly in order to make a full recovery. So if your doctor is resistant, please refer to the 2 support websites I have linked at the beginning of this answer for further advice.

your TSH is still too high. Ideally you want it to be below 2. Many doctors make the mistake of thinking that getting the TSH into the 'normal' range is enough. In my experience it is not, it also needs to be optimised within the normal range. I find 0.5 is good for me.
